Miami SSL
« on: January 23, 2004, 06:16:51 PM »
Where can I get Miami SSL and a keyfile??
I have grown very discusted with Explorer and
(wonders never cease) I have discovered that
that IBrowse is a reasonable alternative without
the hacking into my system by unscrupulas types.
My A3k with CV64 card and 40mhz accellerator does
a fair job.
But I need an SSL. AmiSSL is free but it is my
understanding that its not legal to use it if
you live in the U.S.
What are my options??
What are the rest of you using your Amiga using
for an SSL??

I use Genesis from OS3.9 CD to connect to the Net, and for web-browsing I use Voyager, which has SSL built-in. I haven't really tested out thoroughly its usefulness regarding SSL, as I use my PC for that, however I've tried it once and it worked, to my amazement, with my web banking account.

Voyager crashes a lot with non-RTG modes (AGA for example), but is very stable with video cards.

I'm using AmiSSL.. I'm not sure what the legalities are regarding the ciphers, but I'm not going to spend money on a lawyer to find out. If I do find out that one or more of the ciphers isn't legal, I'll remove them individually.

Most likely, if it's not legal in the U.S., it's probably never been in use on this system anyway.

I used to use Amissl until my system crashed :(
Eveythig back to normal now, save for SSL.
I have a registered version of IBrowse and have installed the Amissl 2.2 package from IOSpirit.
But anytime I need SSL, nothing works!
e.g. at Yahoo.com, when attempting to log in to my use email, I get
'Amissl is not installed or is too old'
I have removed and re-installed it several times, to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

try unticking the "use miamissl" :-) in Ibrowse prefs... Seems a few people have that ticked and are wondering why SSL isnt working...

Ive got both MiamiSSL and AmiSSL installed here and they both work fine, though Miami gives 168bit ciphers, AmiSSL is *only* 128 :-)

As for legalities... who cares :-) Although I seem to recall the once US and rest of world installers for MiamiSSL are no longer such an issue and US citizens can install the global one, which to me suggests a relaxing in US law so perhaps AmiSSL is legal? I gues s it might give some hints in the documentation?

I far as I can tell, only the distribution of AmiSSL
is questionable.  The use of it is not a problem, you
just have to download it directly.  Just making an
educated guess.

My understanding is, you can download miamissl from miamis homepage, but the cypherrs themselves have to be purchased somewhere, there are 2 cypher packages, a US one and in international, you are not allowed to use theinternational one in the US and you cant export the US one internationally...i had a textfile somewhere i found on the net that explains it..and tells you where you can purchase the cyphers, i'll see if i can find it...  :-?

you didnt purchase the ciphers, you downloaded them from 2 different locations... and if I recall correctly the law changed in the US a few years ago allowing the international ciphers to be used inside the US and visa versa.

Already verified that 'use miamissl' was not selected.

Any other ideas ?

If unticking the use miamissl didnt work I dont know what to tell you. I was having the same problem and just unticked it and now its working. Maybe a reinstall now? Did you save the settings and restart Ibrowse?

Up and running correctly now.
