GVP GForce 030 Onboard SCSI High CPU Load?
« on: October 25, 2012, 04:21:16 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm installing up a system with a GVP Geforce 030 Board, 40 mhz with 13mb of Fastram onboard (1Mb Soldered, 3x 4mb Simms).

I've noticed that when copying files the whole system seems to slow down - Is the SCSI Controller not DMA Capable, or have I set it up incorrectly?

I have the Fastmem set to 32bit, perhaps the SCSI Board needs some memory in the Zorro 2 space for DMA?

Thanks in advance,

Robert.

It uses an Am33C93 - should be DMA capable...
What's the DMA mask value and where does the RAM map to?

I'm using a Mechware SCSI Card reader with Professional File System SCSI Direct from Classic Workbench - Mask I think is 0x7ffffffe - The ram shows in showconfig as "$1000000-$1CFFFFF (13.0 meg)"

Robert.

Quick update :- Just tried it with Mask set to 0xffffffc but CPU Use is still over 90% When copying files - According to DOpus CPU Meter, maybe not that accurate but the mouse slows down and you can't really do any other tasks.

These boards map ram into zorroII space don't they?  The specs claim it can dma to ram.
The max transfer is what you should be looking at-make sure its correct.
I dont recall experiencing any slowdown on my gvp gforce 030 in the 2000 i have,i run sfs 1.279 on all my stuff, but i doubt this is a problem. Do you have the rom mapped to fast ram?
Also you might check the revision of the scsi chip, it may be a older -04/proto.
