Anyone that's interested in trying one out?
Send me the postage for a small Priority Mail box and you can have an IDE Zip100 drive.

Yes the internal IDE zip100 drive works when attached to the 1200 motherboard connector. I used IDEfix software and a mountlist.

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

The Amiga's IDE is quite robust.  It could use a better buffer, and the ATAPI software came later (mostly from others); but it has handled every device I've attached to it.

You can't. As he said, ATAPI sofware came later. The ROM driver does not support ATAPI drives and therefore you cannot boot from ZIP.

That said, you can boot from floppy or HDD, make the IDEfix driver resident and after that you can boot from ZIP, too. But not at power-on time.

@OP, yep the Panasonic ZIP is also compatible.  I had a Iomega SCSI external via my Blizzard then just used an internal IDE in my A1200 Power Tower setup:

I'm now toying with CF cards to replace my HDs but with mixed results unfortunately.
Just been reading some more about IDE-Fix and I'm unsure if there's a solution.

Fun times again with my Miggy.... might even try OS 4.1 when I have some spare pounds.

If you have the hardware, then you really should try OS 4.1 as it is a real step forward in Amiga-style operating system. Very stable and easy to configure; the way all OS's should be but never are it seems

Not all IDE Zip drives are ATAPI

Although I don't know if you can boot from the IDE ones either.
