anyone know a good CD-ROM filesystem?

I've never had a truly good CD-ROM filesystem for my Amiga.  First I used CacheCDFS, which is supposed to be multisession, but isn't (never was on my system anyhow).  Then, I switched to AmiCDROM (I'm pretty sure that's the name), which is an older one but actually is multisession.  The thing is, it's not capable of maintaining the file comments and protection bits.  So, every time I restore from a backup I lose all that.  I was starting to write a script file that can reassign all these from a List output file, but there's one part of the functionality I can't get to work... it's probably not quite possible.  My full backup fits on a CD, but right now my only option when restoring (without losing those file attributes) is to copy each session to a separate CD one at a time, so I can use CacheCDFS to restore them from that.

Actually, I might have more recently found a newer version of AmiCDROM that might possibly be able to read file attributes.  I didn't check that archive yet.  Does this sound right for a newer AmiCDROM version?  Or does anyone know of a good CD-ROM filesystem that has both multisession and file attribute retension?

Mind that, viewing the readme, it doesn't appear to read UDF (DVD format) disks.  Is that correct?  (I've been wanting a UDF capable driver forever.)

It's true that CacheCDFS only sees the first session by default. But it can be configured to ask which session to use each time a CD is inserted.

There is no file system for the Amiga which can read UDF. Even AllegroCDFS which claims so does not do it.

Most DVDs can be read by every CD file system, though, because they also contain an ISO directory.

Thanks, hun.  I'll check if that's the one I downloaded on the Amiga.  I'm guessing it's not the one I have installed.

Is that how it works?!  Others have told me it's supposed to be multisession, like it claims.  But, after fiddling with settings and trying everything, I concluded it's not.  However, if it can be configured to read whichever session you want at a time, that's still a lot better and more usable.  So, how exactly do you tell CacheCDFS to ask which session each time?

In CDFSPrefs you can select either Multi Session or Multi Volume. If you select Multi Session, it will read only the first session (which means that multisession support is broken). But if you select Multi Volume, you get a popup window whenever you insert a new CD which lets you choose from all available sessions.

Exactly, multisession support is broken alright.  The multivolume option sounds pretty doable.  Does that work when the CD is burnt as multisession, or does it need to be burnt as multivolume?

I don't see the difference. Multivolume just means that you don't include the contents of previous sessions in the new directory.

I don't know if Asimware's AsimCDFS will do what you want with the copying, but it is very robust.

I've used ASIMWare ASIMcdfs for years with no complaints. It's easy to install, and setup. I've used it on everything from my A2000s to an '060 cpu-ed A1200. Good stuff...

PS - beware of buying a bootleg version of 3.10 on ebay though. They do NOT work correctly. ether buy from some one you know, or stick with 3.8.

Yeah, I know it.  So it sounds like it works just as well either way.
