A1200 stripped threads
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:14:31 AM »
I have finally taken my A1200 apart so many times that my case threads stripped out.

I came up with a fix that still utilizes the stock screws...

Parts:
    Wire nuts
    2-part epoxy
    dremel tool
    shish kabob skewer
    large screw

1. Using the large screw remove the springy thing from the wire nut. This springy thing will work as a helicoil(TM). my springy things were a little long so I clipped a few rings off of the top.

2. Use a drill or dremel to enlarge the screw hole so the springy thing fits. Fill the entire column with epoxy.

3. Insert springy thing and use skewer to force out excess epoxy.

4. After letting epoxy dry, reassemble A1200.

Hopefully you don't need steps 5, 6 and 7 which are disassemble A1200 because the HD LED is not working, reconnect FastATA wire that came off and finally, reassemble A1200.

Hi,

I just use superglue and toothpicks, I put super glue on the toothpick and then insert in stripped hole. When dry and superglue is holding toothpick in place, I just screw the screw back in the hole. Sometimes I don't even use the superglue, I just insert toothpick into the hole break it off at the proper height and then screw in the screw. Holds tight almost 99% of the time.

Works for all stripped out holes, in doors, cars etc.

Whenever I strip the holes in my gear, I always just bore out the holes and use bigger screws, usually something different like Torx or Gamebit.
