Carrier Command and Payback
« on: October 04, 2012, 03:25:23 AM »
Apparently a remake of the excellent carrier command has been made.

Payback 2 is also due for release in the future.  Has anyone played the original on the Amiga.  If so, is it any good or at least worth checking out?

If you like Grand Theft Auto, then Payback is for you. Or if you just like to drive card from a top down perspective, then yes, play it, it is fun!

I keep looking at Carrier Command and have on several occasions nearly bought it. But I don't know why I can't bring myself to seal the deal.

I loved CC back in the day. I don't play games much anymore, but I just might pull the trigger on this one, if only for the nostalgia...

Cheers for that link.

I loved Carrier Command, so I'll probably get this.  There's a new updated X-Com out for the PC too.

Yes it's a good game but slow on 68K hardware so don't bother if you have anything less than an 060, it's very playable on ppc hardware.

Too late for us now but they were apparently letting people play the original on a Commodore at HMV as part of London Games week.

Played the demo of the new X Com (via Steam) and it's really great.  There's some wonderful videos on YouTube of gameplay and interviews with Jake Solomon (Main Designer) and the rest of the team, great fun and you feel the love they had for the original both in the videos and in the final product.

I've seen only mediocre reviews of "Carrier Command: Gaea Mission" though, sadly...

I heard development was going to be stopped last year, was pleased to hear this was wrong, but most of the reviewers have given only average scores:

Can't wait for next week - X Com LIVES!

True, minimum req of 020 is just idiotic since it wont run near playable speeds on my aca1230, some people have been talking about making the screen smaller but I never found a way to do anything other then lowering resolution.
I play it on my MorphOS machine instead, but a sequel would be nice :)

I am reeeeeeally dubious about some of the changes (4-6 man squad size, skills and classes, no time units) but on the flip side... it's a main stream turn based strategy title in 2012. I hope it does well enough to get people to pay attention. Some of us like games where you have to think once in a while :)
