I'll check that tonight :)

I usually just run 32 colours in WB but if it's a huge difference, it might be worth the consideration once I have spare change.

its sad to say but AGA really only could perform on-par with 640x480@8bit SVGA or Mac video of that era if it ran in interlace mode...

I wonder if such a thing could exist as an external device so that hardware like a Genlock and Chroma Key could still be used.

So I tested it. Interlace is a tad snappier but its pretty pokey either way, to be honest.

Yep to get any more speed for games we need Jens to update the firmware with some decent chunky modes (aka Graffiti).

I'm currently using the SuperPlus driver to run at 800x600 in WB in 64 colors and it seems nice and quick to me.
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

Thats not entirely true....

You'll get substantial speed increase(over 100%) by switching from multisync mode to interlace in things like workbench and shapeshifter.  Interlace mode did not work well with my Dell 2320 monitor I was using.

The original poster was talking about using it to speed up the game BOOM.
He didn't mention either shapeshifter or workbench.
To speed up games like Doom/Boom you definatly need an real 040/060 accelerator.

I got one on my A1200 and I can say a few things.
First there are pros and cons using VGA over DVI, using VGA gave me horizontal lines that annoyed me a lot due to pixel clock etc, got that on all monitors I tried when using VGA and I had no way to remove it before the config tool is released.

The pros of VGA is that you can adjust the picture size on the monitor to remove a lot of the black borders in some screen modes witch is great and the auto adjust on decent monitors seem to do it good enough.

I switched to DVI just because of the horizontal lines, when using DVI I got perfect crystal clear picture but I can not adjust the image to remove black borders in lower resolutions due to DVI is digital pixel by pixel match.

But I preferred some black borders over horizontal lines so I am sticking with DVI until the config tool comes, if you wan't to see what I mean with horizontal lines etc I can post a few pictures.

Edit: I am using Superplus @ 800x600 as screen mode on a 4:3 EIZO FlexScan 1901 monitor and then I get no black borders in WB only in games.

Basically to speed up Nova's port of BOOM, and to make the screen easy on the eyes as I work within OctaMED Sound Studio.

I will be using a VGA converter on this as non of my monitors have the correct jack, but hopefully all will work well as we wait on the long awaited core update.

So what has been ya'll's experience with these things? Are you happy, are you sad, are you mad?

best thing i ever got for  my  1200 ..next to the 030 ..one day ppc  an usb ..then id be truely  happy ..almost a poem
A500 3.1/8meg/2gigscsi ...wants a 040
CD32/SX1/FMV/FLASHDRIVE/  wants sx32pro
A1200  os3.5 030/50/fpu/mmu/2flashdrives/cd/   indivision coming ..............wants a ppc/060  ACCEL

Will an 80Mhz 060 do? ;)

Every darned time I went to order the ECS/OCS version for my A2000, it was out of stock!
I finally found a good deal on a Microway 2000 AGA SD/FF, so I bought it. I prefer CRT monitors, so this works out well for me.
I would rather have supported a current device, but it just wasn't woking out.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

I'm not up to date on this "horizontal" line stuff; are these scan lines?  When I use the MK2 in VGA mode I can see faint vertical lines from clock pixel mistiming that, obviously due to its digital nature, are gone on DVD-D use.  So what gives with the horizontal lines?

I have a Philips 107P VGA CRT monitor. HighGfx works fine and looks great for Workbench and OctaMED (gfx artifacts disappear after 5 minutes being powered on). I'm not a gamer so I couldn't give a monkeys about PAL being shifted to the right etc. I have noticed though that with SuperGfx OctaMEDs timing being related to vertical scan goes a bit out of tune. With HighGfx it is fine. I tried it with a Hanng 19" DVI and it worked but it looked too sharp and was unforgiving so I am happy with my CRT.

I really would like an Indivision AGA MkII, but if there's artifacts then that would definitely put me off buying one. Did the MkI have artifacts?

The banding on the VGA is caused by a difference in the pixel clock on the monitor vs the Indivision... it does not happen on all monitors or even all modes... the new firmware will fix that... Some people have reported that changing the pixel clock in their monitor setup reduced the effect... Did not seem to help on the monitor I have the banding issue on.

The artifacts are not caused by the Indivision. They are a bug in the hardware and if you have them, you'll get them in Multisync mode even without the Indivision. If anything, with the Indivision you can just run interlace mode if you don't feel like fixing the hardware. If you don't fix the motherboard, you'll also have the same artifacts in highgfx and the other new modes...

Thanks for the info. My motherboard revisions are 1A and 1D3. Does that mean I won't get artifacts? Or are the artifacts a seperate issue to the timing fix issue?

On a 1D4 with the timmingfix still these artifacts (with my mk1) i dont understand why some people talks about a fix by a indivision fw, if thats true, why indivision aga mk1 dont have it fixed?
