Software additions to spruce up my A1200 WB screen
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:46:56 AM »
On a stock 1200 with added RAM.  I was wondering what software packages I would need in order to dress up/spice up my Workbench.  If needed I could start looking for an accelerator.

Thanks

Are you looking for performance tweaks, usefull app's, eye candy or ?

I have been massively impressed with the "ClassicWB" packs.

I guess for now eye candy and useful apps.  Performance tweaks might be hard
as it seems accelerators are few and far between.

Ah.. coolness.  I will look into 3.5 and 3.9.  That might just do the trick.

Thanks

Don't bother with 3.5 and 3.9 if you don't have an accelerator. How much RAM do you have, and what type of card is it on? On top of a fresh Workbench installation if you want it to look nicer you should install these programs, then download some graphics/icon packs for them:

http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/mui38usr
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/VisualPrefs
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/birdie2000
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/NewIcons46
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/FullPalette22
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/titleshadow

To help speed things up a bit, install these ones:

http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/Blazewcp
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/fblit
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/FText
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/MemOptimizer
http://aminet.net/package/util/sys/PatchRAM
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/MinStack
http://aminet.net/package/util/sys/envhandler

With these programs running, I made my A1200's 16 colour Workbench look like this:
A1200 030@28Mhz/2MB+32MB/RTC/KS3.1/IDE-CF+4GB/4-Way Clockport Expander/IndivisionAGA/PCMCIA NIC
A1200 020@14Mhz/2MB+8MB/FPU/RTC/KS3.0/IDE-CF+2GB/S-Video
CD32 020@14Mhz/2MB+8MB/RTC/KS3.1/IDE-CF+4GB
A600 030@30Mhz/2MB+64MB/RTC/IDE-CF+4GB/Subway USB/S-Video/PCMCIA NIC/USB Numeric Keypad+Hub+Mouse+Control Pad
A500 000@7Mhz/512kB+512kB/ROM Switcher/KS3.1+1.3/S-Video
