Are there not many televisions in america that have scart? What are your standard connection in tv,s?

There are virtually no televisions with SCART in the U.S.  At least not that I've seen.

Other than cable, our TVs currently generally have HDMI and frequently composite.  Also, they often have component and VGA.

Less frequently, they still have S-Video.

Amiga 1200 w/ ACA1230/28 - 4G CF, MAS Player, ext floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 500 w/ 2M CHIP and 8M FAST RAM, DCTV, AEHD floppy, and 1084S.
Amiga 1000 w/ 4M FAST RAM, DUAL CF hard drives, external floppy.

As a person in America, there are limitations, but we suffer through -- I'll just keep to Amiga's and suffering.   My old TV's had composite and S-Video, my newer ones have VGA, DVI and HDMI.  Since I gave up on watching "Broadcast TV" years ago for Internet shows, I use my TVs as monitors. My A4000T can give me DVI-d, DVI-a, VGA, and HDMI over DVI-d. I use a 32 inch and 42 inch screen both with 1080x1920.  I was in Germany for several months and picked up a SCART cable for my Amigas, so life is not completely hopeless.

Any particular reason so much in the US has to do with politics and not reason or common sense?

Many things here are decided by committee or the Golden Rule (money) and not logic nor compatibility; who needs world-wide standards when we have Rush Limbaugh type thinking (y'all in Europe just Google him).

Yes, I'm off topic; let's say GE, Westinghouse, and Edison set up a way of thinking in the US similar to the Monroe Doctorine, political views of Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson , and of course, Emminent Domain

Oh, there is no one named, "Emminent Domain " unless he is a rapper.

Sorry, liberal arts education.....

Haha, you know whenever you hear the name 'Rush Limbaugh' it never seems to be associated with anything good :P

But okay, I get the picture

Note that not all tvs works with that cable. And usually IF you have 2 scart connectors second one will need this http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/255/466255_120216202050_scart2.jpg

Connect it composite output, not TV-output.
ACube Sam 440ep Flex 800mhz, 1gb ram and 240gb hd and OS4.1FE
A1200 Micronic tower, OS3.9, Apollo 060 66mhz, xPert Merlin, Delfina Lite and Micronic Scandy, 500Gb hd, 66mb ram, DVD-burner and WLAN.
A1200 desktop, OS3.9, Blizzard 060 66mhz, 66mb ram, Ide Fix Express with 160Gb HD and WLAN
A500 OS2.1, GVP+HD8 with 4mb ram, 1mb chip ram and 4gb HD
Commodore CDTV KS3.1, 1mb chip, 4mb fast ram and IDE HD

Scart has it's plusses and minuses... It can carry composite video, (true) rgb and s-video. The trick is that the connector is always the same, but *not all* of the pins are always connected and thus not all the aforementioned signal types are actually carried (depends on the cable and of course the computer and display).

The best picture quality (which actually is comparable with vga) is rgb via scart. The signal is not compressed, only the sync is different compared to vga. I can assure you that for example my belowed A1200 produces a great picture even when hooked up to a modern lcd pojector (1920 x 1080) via scart directly from the A1200 rgb out. Qualitywise the possible signals carried via scart are (in descending order):

1. rgb
2. s-video
3. compos(h)ite

Since no one mentioned, if you want VGA without buying a scandouble/flixerfixer you can use a Arcade game converter GBS-8220, they work decent and the price is fair.

Hm, any particular reason why scart is not standard in US?

SCART only became standard in 50hz regions because France made the connector mandatory for connecting minitel decoders & it was cheaper to make one standard TV and sell it to everyone.

Because 60hz TV's were different and never offered RGB inputs, 60hz devices that output it were rare. Component video took off instead.
