What style of game says "amiga" to you?
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:44:41 AM »
Any particular game style or genre that feels particularly "amiga' to you?

Obviously the machine was blessed with games in all genres but the two i always think of are:

3D dungeon crawlers (like dungeon master, hired guns or eye of the beholder)

multiplayer strategy games (like settlers, kingdoms of england or warlords)

what is it to you?

Point-and-click adventures, that's what I remember the most from the classic days.

For me its arty games like psygnosis used to make. They may not have always had good gameplay but they created very imaginative and evocative worlds. im working with some guys on a game now and its somewhat inspired by psygnosis games. Its early days yet though but i hope it sees completion. Its for the pandora console.

I'll second this. I suspect that there are almost certainly early examples on earlier platforms (the resources to do a cohesive "art game" certainly existed as far back as the C64,) but between the Psygnosis titles and Another World (and I'd even class Cinemaware's loving genre homages in there,) the Amiga is without a doubt where the idea really began to take shape.

Yeah, some Cinemaware games, Psynosis games (Shadow of the Beast I, its a real Amiga Classic), Lotus Trilogy. But i dont know why, one game always remind me Amiga, is Stunts Car Racer, 4D Sports Racing.
Lemmings its another Classic Amiga Game.
The sports games Like Epyx "Games" Series (Summer I, II The Games, Winter, World, California I and II Games). This games are very representative in C=64 too.

For the second "shot" in Amiga Gaming World, games like World Circuit, Another World (Out of this World), Flashback, Zool, says "Amiga" too.

Anyway, I forget more names for sure.. but there some games come to my mind right now..
Amiga 1000, 500, 600, 2000, 1200, 4000...

When i think of Amiga i think of Monkey Island. I have so many memories from my childhood playing this game with my friends :-) one of the best games in my opinion. but other than that, point and click adventures were good and many on the amiga.

Anything with really smooth simple graphics, side scrolling, sprites and just
2 buttons. I try to play modern consoles but needing to learn to use 6 or 12
buttons makes the game alot less enjoyable.

My nephews make fun of me...
