Trouble installing Wings
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:05:45 PM »
I can not seem to get Wings to install on my "new" A2000. The machine is a 6.x motherboard, 3.1 OS with 12Mb of fast RAM and 1Mb of chip.
I have the original disks (real cinemaware) but no manual. Using the hard drive option on Reel Two just doesn't work. It will say ram:T already exists, and if I delete it it says it doesn't exist. So - damned if you do and damned if you don't. What is the trick?

C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Kickstart incompatibility?   Seems most games like 1.3, not 3.1.  I'd get a ROM switcher (if you can find one).  I'm looking for one that has a switch myself.

Far as I know Wings should work fine on a 1200.

Is it possible to change the path it is asking for?

"Hard disk installation: you can install Wings to you HD. On reel 1 is a
file named READ_ME.INSTALL that explains the procedure."

I think the installation was as straightforward as to just copy both disks contents to HD then assign "REEL 1" & "REEL 2" to that directory. But it's been some time....

Definitely works fine on A1200. I remember playing it day and night.
Unfortunately, I am tied up with my A600 now, so I can not test it on A1200 :(

Wings will boot from a folder or from a CD-Rom. Just copy the files and folders to a Wings directory. Wings prefers an Amiga 2000 or 500 with Kickstart / Workbench 1.3. I burned my Wings game to a CD and it boots up perfectly from the CD. Wings is not copy protected.

I can't believe I didn't bother to look on Reel one. Have it working on the hard drive now. Many thanks.
It is really amazing what can be forgotten over the years. A real, heartfelt, thank you.

Glad you have it running now :). I guess it's HUN-ting time? :destroy:
My main gripe about this gem are the strafing missions which become almost impossible near the end of the game.
