GVP HD 8+
« on: January 20, 2004, 05:31:14 AM »
I just got this GVP Impact series 2 HD8+.  The A500 recognizes the 8mb of memory, but when it tries to access the HD the message "unexpected status, $06 $07" pops up.
Booting from the floppy (os 1.3) I was able to access the HD. I had to click "cancel" a few times due to the error poping up.
I tried another HD, but got the same message and was not able to access this HD.
Well, it does add the 8mb of ram to the system fine.
My GVP Impact series 2 HD8+ is toast, isn't it? :-x

Hmm.... Double check your termination and cabling, perhaps?

Termination should be set on the card if no external devices are plugged into it.  Termination should also be set on the hard drive, since it would be the last device on the chain.  Bad cable will also cause similiar problems.

Of course, a fried SCSI interface chip could also be causing your woes.  That might be easy to fix, though, if it's socketed.

I wouldn't chalk up the card as a loss quite yet.  And even if you did, keep the RAM, as GVP SIMMS are still hard to find.  ;-)

Well, the only thing socketed is a rom chip. Everything else is surface.
I agree on the GVP ram, since I will probably get more GVP stuff that takes special chips!
I replaced the cable and terminated everything. I also have an A3000, so I got a lesson in SCSI !
Thanks IIwrath!
