WANTED .. Your BEST 'IBROWSE' Tips & Tricks
« on: January 20, 2004, 05:07:17 AM »
OK... IBrowse 2.3 has been around for awhile.
Its time to share any 'Tips & Tricks' to improve
speed and GFX.

I'd like to forget about Explorer and turn my PC
over to AROS.

Hi,

Theres no real 'tricks' behind improved speed & GFX as such.

A nippy (ish) processor, probably an 030, & a GFX card should set you of nicely. The overheads for your Amiga are quite low, so a little upgrade makes quite a difference.

However, if hardware upgrades are out of the question. One suggestion (Although not very pretty) could be to disable the loading of images (So you can still read the content) & when you get to a website you need to see, you can right click images to load individual ones or simply press the "Load Images" button in the tool bar to load  on the page (If you don't have a "LoadImages" button, youo can put one in using the Preferences/Settings/GUI/Toolbar options page.)

FuZion.

i have compared my ib2.3 with the latest version of IE some time ago and i found (and the pc owner) that IB2.3 is infact FASTER than his IE , but this was done on amiga compatible sites only, ie stuff like AMIGA.org etc..

anyway i am on a PPC+060 1200 with a mediator and voodoo3 , and i use the internal image decoding and not external ones like warpdt etc.

anyway sites which have flash and such is rather fast on amiga due to it wont show it, but then again everything will look less stylish but that aint a problem for me since i aint a web fanatic:)

Whats up with all the hate!

Installing StackAttack sorted out some of the stability issues for me.

I always used to have IBrowse hang on me frequently, regardless of how I had set the program's stack size but with StackAttack it's as steady as a rock.

Hi  melott

with AGA:

FBlit with at least a 040 and as memory as you can

with a GFX card:

the same less FBlit :-)

I suggest you all, to download the last IB 2.3 Documention from IOSPIRIT site (very useful and well written)

Another important note, it is about the number of connection opened (collerated by your connection speed).

Check the chapter: Preferences/Network

Ciao

PS- I personally have a number of connections a little bit higher than that advising.

When I use IBrowse, I tend to put the cache on a seperate partition, so if IBrowse crashes you only need to repair or reformat the partition if its corrupted.

If you want to see Flash anims, you can download SWFPlayer from Aminet and view the .swf files stored in your cache!

To bad you can tell Ibrowse to use that and have it show th eanims real time in the browser. Thats what we need from the next Ibrowse is plugin files that work! I wonder how many copies of Ibrowse 2.3 have been sold to date?

So you people actually dare using HDD to store IB cache? Since I got 64MB fastmem I put it in RAM: for the sole purpose of not allowing it to kill my HDD. Worked wonders for speed too.

Making bitmap versions of the used font sizes probably helps. I decided it was simpler and more readable to use my system font everywhere though.
*Zap! Zap!* Ha! Take that! *Kabooom!* Hey, that\'s not fair!

Gfx-card is essential. AGA is real bottleneck in this situation :) You don't need any extra tricks with speed if you do have gfx-card in PCI or ZorroIII and 060 cpu.

One thing I love in IB is middle mousebutton scrolling with 3-button mouse. Far better than wheel ;) And middle mouse setted to shift key in MCP for some speed ;)
