Need link to CF Patch in Aminet
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:37:39 PM »
Could somebody please send me the link in Aminet for the file that resolves the problem of CF that cannot be read by the A1200?

I checked but there are too many files in Aminet that look alike.

The problem that I am trying to fix is a cf card freezing my A1200 the moment is inserted in the PCMCIA cf adapter. Installation is done and I have a mounted CF0: but I cannot insert the card without freezing my computer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

@cammy At this point I can only assume that my brand new CF card, Transcend 2.0GB 133x, is not good, or my A1200 doesn't like it.

I'm using EasyNet in CF0: and it connects fine; the timer shows the time I;ve been online. I haven't figured out yet how to transfer files from the host computer to my A1200, but that's a different issue. IMHO, this ie reason to believe that my CF0: works!

BTW, I ran a fresh installation of the CompactCard Patch and CompactCard Reset, since I found that those 2 files are included in the installation floppy of EasyNet. I rebooted following the prompts of the installer, but still I cannot the CF card in CF0:, and the computer still freezes when I insert the card in the adapter.....Please someone come and rescue me....:banghead

Or I guess, I will have to wait for the original EasyADF PCMCIA and 128MB card to see if I can get that up.

Any other suggestions???

Do not connect electronic devices while they are powered on. Switch off the Amiga, then connect the card reader to the PCMCIA port. Make sure that it is connected properly and that none of the little pins in the PCMCIA port are bended away or pushed back into the case. Then connect the CF card to the reader. Again make sure that it is connected properly.

Only now switch on the Amiga.

If this CF card does not work, try another one of a different brand and size.

Stop to mix up the words. The expansion port of the Amiga is called PCMCIA. The memory card is called Compact Flash.

You cannot connect EasyNet to CF. You can only connect it to PCMCIA if there is a network card connected to the PCMCIA port.

There is no such thing like a CF patch, there is a PCMCIA patch.

Make sure that EasyNet is disabled when you use the CF reader and make sure that the CF drivers are disabled when you use the network card.

You will never get a CF0 icon on the Workbench. You will get an icon with the volume name of the CF card as label. If the CF card is not yet formatted or is not recognised you might get a CF0:Unformatted or CF0:BAD icon.

Thank you for all the clarifications.

Your assumption though that I have been doing hot swapping is incorrect...that's always the problem when one makes assumptions.

I've been doing everything as you describe, for days now with no results.

The only thing I haven't done so far is disabling EasyNet, but I thought when you start from a fresh boot up and unless you launch EasyNet, it was not going to be active. So could you please, with a little of patience, tell me how to disable EasyNet?

Finally, the files afore mentioned are indeed called COMAPCTCARD.PATCH AND COMPACTCARD.RESET, respectively. They come included in the EasyNet floppy and are also available from Aminet.

Thanks in advance for any extra help.

When you say Easynet, do you mean the Easynet package that Amigakit sell? If not, can you link some info to the package.

By default, Eastnet (amigakit package) does not run at start up.

I am not making assumptions, I only read what you write:

I cannot freeze if it is not already running.

If you want accurate help you should learn to describe your problem carefully and correctly, with correct wording.

No they aren't. They are called CardPatch and CardReset. That's because expansions connected to the PCMCIA port are also called PC Cards as you can see in the readme:

Quote
When a PC Card is plugged in the PCMCIA slot ...

There is no "compact" in there and no "flash" either and also no "CF". Because this would just be wrong.

Calling the PCMCIA port "CF0" is even more wrong than calling it CF or Compact Flash.

I hope you understand this: I fixed the problem and it was not thanks to you.

By the way, PCMCIA stands for PERSONAL COMPUTER MEMORY CARD INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION, since the first of their  kind were intended as memory expansions. Later some others were adapted or modified to serve as interfaces or media adapters. Some are currently used  ExressCards to power devices that could be attached to a PC; i.e. Express Cards.

Merci, Gracias, Obrigado, Danke, Vedank, Domou Arigatou, XieXie, Thank You...perhaps you may, may, understand one of these. :rtfm:
