Error Messages under OS 3.9
« on: January 17, 2004, 03:15:53 PM »
I recently changed my hard drive over from a Rev 9 motherboard type 16 mhz Amiga 3000 to a Rev 7 25 Mhz Amiga 3000.  Both 68030 of course.  :)

Ever since I did that my computer still comes up with many errors.  Could anyone please help me identify the following?

-Program failed error #80000004
Wait for disk activity to finish
(Suspend / Reboot)

-Boot has a checksum error
on disk block 77105
(retry / cancel)

And simply ...

-Could not open window.

So what does all this mean?  Reinstall OS 3.9 due to the differences between the two motherboards?

      Thanks!

      Doctor Clu

It means that the file system on the hard disk has been corrupted and the checksums that check data consistency has failed.

You need to repair it using a disk repair utility such as DiskSalv (you can d/l DiskSalv from Aminet -
http://de.aminet.net)

A clean 3.9 install (boingbag 2 updated) on my machine had odd problems too - some prefs programs refuse to run, for instance (generating bad loadfile hunk errors).

The disk has been thouroughly checked for hard errors, yet couldn't find any

I used to get those types of things.

On one occasion it was due to  the commander virus (it was a long time ago!).
on another occasion it was solved by replacing my HD!
( it was drawing too much power).

But in your case i think it it probably the file transfer speed; check the `mask` in HDTOOLBOX.
Is it ffffff ?
Lower by adding an `e` ----- eeffff...

(sry, can`t remember how many e)
You know what i mean... :-D

Basically the drive can`t cope with the data sent to it, so there are checksum errors...

I had a similar problem on my accelerated A600 (030@40):

Gurus on booting for RamLib or DHx:
Program failed error #80000004
Wait for disk activity to finish
(Suspend / Reboot)

When this happened, then I had to reboot with no startup-sequence (to let validate the disk with calm, even if I have the TurboVal installed) and get a :
Boot has a checksum error
on disk block xxxxx
(retry / cancel)

Solution: I left the whole system validate with the plain 68000 (yes, the gurus might be also due to the CPU overload, as my A600 is very prompt to these in such cases), or just try a QBack tools repair.

Just read the above post :-)

solved by replacing my HD! (it was drawing too much power).

So a low power might be the culprit in both cases:
The HD is drawing much power or the accelerator (in my case).
-Check the new motherboard and its power supply.

If there is something wrong with the checksum the QBack will fix it. If it's a bad sector (h/w problem), then these sectors should be marked as bad ones.
