My A4000 needs help -- ehh yes!
« on: January 17, 2004, 04:39:02 AM »
Well. It all started with SFS failing because of iBrowse cache. Now I've upgraded my Amiga with the latest SFS version. Because of that, my SYS partition is now formated. Its clean!

Well,.. its time to install AmigaOS. But is this a easy task? No! Why? Because I dont get contact with my cd-rom at all, and I dont have "working" AmigaOS v3.1 in disks at all.

Another problem here, is that the VGA output to Early Startup have burned itself into my Kickstart or into my CyberstormPPC flashrom. Because I am getting VGA output on Early Startup menu. This is very irritating, and when AmigaOS is launched, it switches back to PAL. So then the switching between VGA adapter and my tv modulator goes on and on and on. Not fun at all...

And now you say,.. There should be no VGA output to Early Startup when HD is formatted and AmigaOS v3.1 is installed. Yes, I've managed to install it in somehow parts.

But the strangest thing, is that if I plug out everything:
- My Voodoo 3 3000 PCI card
- All of my Zorro cards
- MediatorPCI4000Di board
- My 60GB Samsung HD

All I should get is PAL animation of the Kickstart v3.1 image. But thats is there, but after some time it just gets coded (like on TV, when a movie channel is coded for non-subscribers), then the screen turns black.

The same thing happends when booting into AmigaOS v3.1 .. The PAL signal is there, then it suddendly jumps to VGA output mode.

Whats doing this? Have AmigaOS v3.9 done something to the Kickstarts or might the PAL output hang in my CyberstormPPC board?

Please help out!

Regards,
Michal, www.amigaworld.org

@Amidelf:

The 31KHz modes are probably the works of the CSPPC. Press esc after boot to enter the CSPPC bootmenu. Then first select 15KHz or 31KHz by pressing space (you will indeed notice what is what :)). Then I think that under the system menu you can choose something like "31KHz modes" or "no 31KHz modes". If it is not under the system menu, it is under some other menu. In your case it seems like you would be wanting "no 31KHz modes". After that just go back to the main CSPPC boot menu and press save and things should work a bit better.

Good luck!

Do you have some sort of PS/2 adapter for your keyboard?

Was just curious as some PS/2 adapters can be quite slow to initialize at boot. I have this problem on my A1200T with Blizzard1260 - disabling the card by pressing '2' is _very_ hard as the keyboard finished its initialization just before the time to press '2' is up.

So nothing happens if you reboot and press esc numerous times?

I have heard of BlizzardPPC users having problem with their flash going bad, so a suggestion might be to reflash the CyberStormPPC flash. It would atleast not hurt doing so.

You can download it from two sites:

Latest flash upgrade from Aminet
Latest flash upgrade from DCE

These upgrade files should be exactly the same ones, just added both for the sake of it ;).

I urge you too read the instructions supplied in the archive _THOROUGLY_ before flashing.

Before flashing try entering the bootmenu atleast five more times so you are sure it doesnt work for you.

Good luck!

(edit): Have you never been able to enter the bootmenu of your CSPPC or is this something that happened recently?

Well, flash away then :=). Cant make things worse assuming that you follow the instructions and no power outage will occur during the flash procedure ;).
