Odd startup messages...
« on: January 17, 2004, 03:05:10 AM »
I want to wipe my system clean, but the following hits me every time I try to boot off of my 3.1 floppys....

BTW, I have a A4000T with the DCE PPC combo card in it.

When I try to boot off of floppy normally, it'll give me the Workbench bar but nothing else.  No menus from a right click.

When I try to boot off of the workbench 3.1 without a startup sequence, it gives me "invalid resident liburary" when I type "loadwb".  THAT has never failed me in getting around startup probs. so I'm REAL hesitent......

clues?

I am putting OS 3.9 onto it, but it's the first ime I've installed that as well :-(

any who, any insight would be MOST appreciated...

On the A4000T with OS 40.70 in ROM, it lacks the workbench.library.  Therefore you have to use the special WB 3.1 disks which have workbench.library on them.

Either that or it's getting upset because the 68060.library is not present when booting WB from disk.

If it helps I can send you a OS 3.9 emergency disk image (which you will have to edit depending on your CDrom config) which you can use to boot to install OS 3.9 from CD.
If you install Boing Bag 1, make sure you install Boing Bag 2 immediately afterwards, because BB1 causes problems with the SCSI controllers on A4000Ts.

real common you don't have the proper libs on the disk.

go to http://www.dcecom.de/pub/driver/68060_20011029.lha download the 68060 libraries
rename your 68040.library to 68040old.library
rename the  68040dummy.library to 68040.library
just copy the 68060 library to your startup disk
every thing will work fine then

This is a workbench.library problem - if it was about the 0x0.libraries, it'd guru on the setpatch command.
