Got My Indivision ECS Today

And so far, I'm not impressed.  It won't stay plugged into the socket, the slightest bend in the VGA cable pops it out.  If I have my bootscreen enabled on the A2630 accelerator, it won't do nothing after Indivision screen.  So, I took the jumper off the A2630, and now it boots.  It looks like I am looking out of a jail cell, vertical, evenly spaced bars down the screen.  When I move the mouse, screen jitters all to pieces.  I have tried different resolutions, no effect.  I am going to load the config software and see what I can do.  Maybe it is something with my a2000 or maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Any suggestions?  I have read all the manual.


Edit:  Got it working, it works great!  Quality product.  Took 2 weeks to be shipped from Germany.

My guess is that it isn't pushed all the way in. At least the Indivision AGA mk2 required considerable force. YMMV.

The IndiECS goes into a normal DIL-socket (Denise) while the AGA-versions use a PLCC-socket to be pushed onto the chip (Alice) something it was never designed for.

Mounting an ECS-Indi shouldn't require (much) more force than changing a Kickstart-ROM.

Corrosion in the socket, the socket not putting enough force onto the pins (it's about 25 years old), a broken/bent pin on the Indi or even something on the mobo might be the issue here (if it really is a HW-prob with the A2000 and not a SW-issue or a broken Indi).

The Denise Chip should have no effect on the picture created by the Indi-ECS as it emulates a Denise itself.

Hm interesting.. My Indivision AGA MK2 should arrive tomorrow. Although I found it kind of pricey(for my budget at least) I ordered it because I thought it was a decent solution.. so I hope I won't face similar problems.

Well, once again you guys were spot on.  I took the Indivision out, bent the pins ever so slightly on one side out just a bit, and re-inserted it.  I pushed so hard, the motherboard was bending, and it plugged in good and solid.  Now all is well, and I have to say...WOW, it is worth the money!  It works great.  I guess it was me just being too careful when plugging it in.  I just wish that my 2630 would work with the jumper enabled for the bootscreen.  If I enable it via the jumper, the computer just sits there and does nothing.  It may be a case of it waiting for me to select 68000 or 68030, and the Indivision just not displaying the screen.  Funny thing, when it was working not plugged in all the way, ClassicWB said I had OCS 030, which concerned me.  I did a sysinfo, and it said ECS Agnus and ECS Denise.  But now, it shows ECS 030.  Also, a couple of times, it showed my 2630 running at 14.3 Mhz.  It seems OK now and shows 24.2 Mhz.  Who knows...what it was doing that way.

Sysinfo shows the 68030 at 24.2 Mhz, FPU 6882, and MMU 68030 (not in use).  What does the "not in use" tell me, that it isn't equipped, or it just isn't working?

Not in use - it's there doing nothing. Try for example cpu fastrom.

Well, I found an old ISA serial card laying around (yes, I keep old stuff :crazy:) and took the metal part that covers the hole in the back of the computer loose.  I made two holes to match the holes on the back of my A2000 in the card position on the opposite side of the power supply from all of the other card positions.  I then mounted the VGA connector where the DB9 was located on the old serial card.  So, now I have what looks like a regular video card in the A2000 from the outside.  Really worked well.  One question about that card slot, it sits over on the opposite side of the computer from all the others.  Is it a regular Zorro slot?  Can you plug an accelerator in that slot, like, say my A2630?
