Joypad / Controller options

Just a quick question for you guys really.

I've recently been upgrading my a1200 with Blizzard 1230 (50mhz) , Indivision Mk2 an a CF Drive.

I've installed one of those USB/PS2 to amiga mouse from ebay which has enabled me to use an optical mouse. I had a great time playing populous last night with it!

So that leaves games that use the joystick. Now i do have an old quickshot joystick which works fine but it just doesnt feel as responsive as im used to now with using Playstation 3controllers.

Im aware that there are converters to allow you to use modern controllers - but im wondering how compatible these are .  I've always thought the CD32 pad looked ugly and uncomfortable - although i've never used one.

Whats the best option for using a joypad controller with the amiga that can also be used with CDTV / CD32 games.

Hope you can offer me some advice - it doesnt matter if its a new product or something i can find used on ebay.

The Amiga/PSX adapter is being sold over on Amibay at the moment, there is an active discussion in the forums, I'm sure somebody there will know regarding CD32 compatibility.

I have a controller from a CD32 I like the best. I'd really like to make something that would allow me to remap "up" to a button, but thats a topic for a different day.

I did purchase this PS2 game adapter (along with the HDMI adapter) although it has not arrived yet. I don't know anything about it. it was an impulse buy because i wanted the HDMI

Personally I think the Honey Bee (sometimes labeled Competition Pro) pads for CD32 are best for Amiga gaming. They're quite rare and expensive nowadays (got one from ebay for ~40Eur) but I think its worth it.
While I think the Playstation2/3 controllers might probably be the best controllers in the world for modern day gaming(i.e. using analog sticks for steering) I never really liked the concept of having seperate buttons instead of a cross for digital control.

I recently bought a PSX to DB9 adaptor from Amigamaniac. Took a little bit of time to come but works brilliantly. Has worked with all the controllers I have tried and not only can you use 2 buttons, you can remap keys so up can be remapped to a button and also emulates a mouse (and allows a PSX mouse to be plugged in) and can remap to a CD32 controller. So basically does all that you want!
 
Be careful as it appears that not all PSX to DB9 adaptors do all this.

I understand you can tweak the six button Sega pad and use more buttons. I have not tried this yet, but it has been brought up more than a few times.
The 6 button pads are rarer - and what out for the new Chinese sega 6 button pads. At the very least they cost too much...

I have one of those. I actually prefer the stock CD32 pad, although both are nice.

Been looking to pick up one of those PSX adapters.
 
I have tried:
 
Competition Pro: Very accurate but a bit stiff, no autofire, no second button
 
Gravis gamepad: The amiga versions of these are a bit rare but its great. 2 buttons, autofire for both, and an option to change the autofire buttons to be "up" and "down" so you can play platformers console style.
Bonus that the autofire is by holding down a button, rather than a switch
 
Comp pro CD32 controller: I have one, but its really worn out. Too bad, as its pretty wicked. Autofire for all the buttons (with 3 settings). Unfortunately on mine, the primary fire button has to be pressed really hard
 
Genesis controller: The Genesis controllers work fine as 2 button controllers. I havent been able to test any with autofire. Some of these are getting pretty worn though.
You can get chinese knockoffs for like 4 dollars each. Buy 20 of them as they break quick, and I've had several not work as 2 button inputs.
 
Master system controller: Only works as one button controller.

Those Sega pads are supposed to work with both buttons, but recent versions of WHDLoad cuts out the second button for most games for some reason, unless you're using a CD32 pad. If you try some games that support 2-button controllers from floppy you'll see the C button on Mega Drive and 2 button on Master System pads work. Also later versions of AmiMasterGear seem to have the same problem, but I used to play Sega games with a Master System pad all the time years ago.

AmigaManiac's adapters also work with Guitar Hero controllers and dance mats for use with Tracker Hero.

Does Amigamaniac's really map as a CD32 controller?
I know it says it works on the CD32,  but I didn't see on the site that it mapped as a CD32 controller???

That would be nice...

The one kipper2k is selling on Amibay doesn't map as a CD32 controller..

You can thank Cammy for her years of insistence in sealing the deal between Paul and Nathan to get these things out there.

As I said before - he sent me 2 adaptors about 3 weeks ago but had to wait quite a whip them. He does answer his email but not immediately. He's a top bloke though - you just have to be patient. Trust me it's worth the wait - Gloom in Cd32 mode means that you can straff with L keys.
