Kawasaki Children's Keyboard IFF Audio Samples
« on: May 31, 2012, 03:30:26 AM »
I have ripped apart one of my Kawasaki Children's Keyboards, tore out the built in speakers, and installed two RCA jacks on the back.

From there I sampled the machine using Digital Sound Studio 8 Plus and saved the files in 8-bit IFF format.

If anyone has any advice on how I could possibly improve the sample quality or anything, feel free to advise.

Thank you and enjoy! ;)

You can sample them in 16 bits instead of 8 on your peecee, at a higher sample rate, and sample each instrument in multiple octaves (just make sure you can still use that sample rate on Amigas).

Need 8 bit? Maximize their volume and convert to 8 bit (make sure the samples don't clip). Also, don't let the instruments fade, use music software to do that (Amiga hardware volume settings are MUCH better for 8 bit fading).

I agree, always sample in at least 16bit. You can always down sample for amiga use...

I once had a pretty massive collection of samples created for fasttracker II.

16bit mono mostly, but sometimes I'd use stereo samples by using two tracks playing the same not on two tracks (left and right) for drumloops, pads, orchestral sounds or anywhere else stereo helped.

Looks like I can set it for multiple Octaves and 16-bit sampling within the DSS8+. Though I sampled in 8-bit because I had Amiga specific use in mind when I made these.

Though, if anyone has any interest in these and would like me to re-sample, I will gladly re-sample them all again in 16-bit if I can figure out how to do it right on the DSS8+, or in Winblows.

Also, what do you mean by "make sure the samples don't clip"?

Also what does setting up multiple octaves do exactly?

Make sure they don't hit the 0db threshold (maximum possible digital level).  Digital clipping sounds bad. If your waveforms look like they have flat plateaus on top, then they are probably clipped.
