Amiga to VGA

Anybody ever use one of these?

Are they any good, say to use with an Amiga 500 or 2000?
Or would I be better off getting say a 1080 monitor, and  take my chances on it going bad?

i bought on years ago. really pretty junky.

it might be ok if don't use interlace mode which did not always sync up properly or multisync modes(AGA/ECS) which don't work at all.

maybe pass up both get a dell 2320 monitor which supports 15hz.

There are a lot of threads on the English Amiga Board about these with display pictures and issues with them. There are some sellers--U.K. based--that are selling them in a case with a DB23 connector but the price is over $100 in us dollars.

I second that, I got one, and consensus is that this one is better, also very stable and usable in interlace mode.

I used to have one of the gadgets in the original post. It's okay. Not great but okay.

Workable for gaming, slight ghosting in workbench, and interlace works 35% of the time.

For the cost, its a workable solution, but I'd spend a bit extra if you can, and get either a proper monitor or some other scan doubling solution.

I contacted that seller. That product looks great and the price is low. Besides, it will work with other computers besides the Amiga (I'm going to hook one to an old Tandy Color Computer 3).

And they have a lot of other neat devices.

Using the s-video adapter from Amiga Maniac works great :-) Although thinking indivision ecs is on the cards.

Have tried a couple of boxes like the ones linked all blurry or terrible ghosting when game playing :/

That would be the exact opposite of what's discussed. This would allow you to connect a pc to a regular TV.
But there are similar gadgets that supposedly do what we're after:

Sorry for being off topic, but the Tandy Coco3 reference I thought was cool
A Coco1 was my 1st computer, I even upgraded it to 64KB. My older brothers mate had a Coco3 some years later when it was released. Great 8bit machine. I loved Gantelet2 (not a typo, just an unofficial, commercial clone) on it. Actually pretty close to Gauntlet2 on Amiga and AtariST.
Id love to get ahold of a Coco3 myself one day.

Nostalgia, it's not what it used to be

I managed a Radio Shack franchise at one point, so I've got a soft spot for those machines.
They lacked the sprites and audio hardware other systems had, but the GPU could use the entire memory map (since GPU access to memory was interleaved with CPU access).
And the 6809 processor was a lot cooler then the other 8 bit CPUs used in other machines. I think the reason I moved to 68000 based systems was the experience I gained learning 6809 assembler.

BTW - There's a company called Cloud-9 that still has Coco3s in stock and they make a line of accessories (memory expansions, hard disk interfaces, etc.)
