-edit-

Theres an old 10G maxtor in my A1200T :nervous:

Steer well clear of the Deathstar ;-)  harddrives. Take a peek at this 1000+ thread on these drives:

I had one in my A1, I replaced it with a Seagate after hearing the click click click sound described in the above link :nervous: .

I have an 80 GB IBM Deskstar in my PC (since 2 years)
no problems...
If I had to choose a new drive I would go for
Western Digital, Seagate or IBM
A4000D CS060/MKII with SCSI, CV64/4MB, 128MB Fast, ACARD AEC-7720U SCSI-IDE,80GB Samsung HDD, Yamaha CDRW, XSurf2, OS3.9BB2
A500,1MB Chip Kick1.3/3.1,GVP A500+ 540MB HDD and 8MB Fast,GVP DSS 8Bit Sampler

If you're looking for something extra reliable, I'd
go with Seagate or Hitachi/IBM...Samsung seems to have
a good track record with their recent drives too (and
quiet at idle, no "whistle" and retarded "head protection feature"
noises like the 7200.7 Seagates).

Seagates do rank (relatively) poor performance wise, though...
WD's are the fastest, but noisy and "may" be more prone to failure...

Decisions...;-)

Hi all,

Samsung . . .a good choise nowadays . . with 3 years of warranty as well.

Anyway, my old (1999) Maxtor, works very good on my A4000 IDE standard (2,2 MBsec on a 040@30 Mhz).

Ciao
