English Amiga Board Down?
« on: April 08, 2012, 02:41:04 PM »
Anybody know the status on EAB?  Seems to have been off-line since around Thursday last week!

Hoping it's just some glitch and we haven't lost another valuable classic Amiga forum.

It hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

Last time I tried was about 1am on Thurs night and couldn't get on then, tried again yesterday and today, just assumed it had been down the whole time.

Hope it's just server issues then if it's been up and down.

Probably just server issues. The whole abime.net ecosystem is down.

I don't have an idea about servers, but what can make a server like that or this or another go down for three days?
A1200, Lateral 32GB CF, internal Dvd, ACA 1230/56 with an MKII Fast ATA at 9,5Mb/s, another A1200 BPPC project in progress (more or less), and posting from my own/better C64x in my Tv using Hdmi.

hardware failure with no mechanism to get a replacement in quickly for example.

or loss of data, and no backups (that should never happen of course but people still think they don't need backups for some reason)

Doubtful, because the admin (RCK) owns the server (if I'm not mistaken).

Some hardware failure. RCK posted on the Abime IRC chat that a hard reboot of the server had no effect, and that he would go to the network center on Tuesday after Easter to fix it.

It is doubtful, but owning your own server does not mean you get no costs. The biggest costs with hosting are power and such. abime sounds co-located, so you still pay the hosting costs (Unless your mate owns the data center etc) ;-)

laserback is trolling (or a poor attempt at humour).

abime.net and RCK are based in france.
