Anyway, does anybody know if C64 floppy drives will work with this PET? I understand that the cables are different, but I believe the 8050 would work with a VIC20/C64/C128 with an adapter.
Sorry to hear you missed the disk drive. I have a CBM8032 + 8050 combo and it's awesome! The disk drive is just... massive
The 8050 uses IEEE-488 interface. It seems that making
an adapter to use 1541 with a PET is possible, but it looks rather... complicated! PETdisk would be much easier way to go.
A word of warning; my 8032 had a small tubular mains intereference suppression filter installed under the mains transformer. It's connected to the mains before the mains switch so it's live all the time the power cable is connected. This component was rather tired and went up with a loud bang just after a couple of minutes of testing the computer. It might be worth removing, just in case (and replaced to maintain minimum interference to and from the computer).
There are rather few games to the 80-column display CBMs but there is an app that allows to change the display to 40-column and most programs for that screen size will run properly.
Anyway, great machine, take good care of it!
