New FastATA Controllers Released from Elbox
« on: February 28, 2012, 04:14:16 PM »
News from Moxee via amigaworld.net

New FastATA controllers released today.

Krakow 27 Feb 2012

New FastATA controllers are equipped with a Compact Flash
slot and a SATA controller based on the Marvell 88SA8040
SATA-to-PATA bridge.

The new controllers are designed to simultaneously
use up to four devices: one Compact Flash card,
one SATA drive and two to four PATA devices.

The number of simultaneously used Compact Flash
cards or SATA drives may be increased with additional
adapters up to the total number of all connected
devices of four.

If four SATA/CF/ATA/ATAPI devices is not enough
for you, you can install more than one FastATA 4000
MK-VI CF/SATA controller in your A3000 or A4000 computer.
If you have A1200 with ZIV busboard you can
simultaneously use FastATA ZIV CF/SATA and
FastATA A1200 MK-IV CF/SATA controllers.

New software (ATA3.driver 11.0, FastATA4000 ver. 4.0)
enclosed with the new controllers is optimized for best
compatibility with Compact Flash cards and SATA drives.
CF cards controlled by a FastATA controller are seen
in the Amiga system as a fixed (non-removable) device,
which facilitates installation of bootable partitions
on them.

You can order your new controller for your Amiga
just now at http://eu-shop.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?show=4FA

SATA native on my Amiga?  How bad ass is that?!

(Okay, so it's not actually native, it's using a PATA-SATA bridge.  Still, not a bad device.)

You mean that the previous FastATA boards with a PATA to SATA adapter would work too?

Without seeing an actual picture, it seems that way.  The Marvell chip they're talking about is a PATA-to-SATA bridge.  I would expect that it provides an actual SATA port on the device AND it has a CF card port, so that's less equipment we have to provide on the back end of things.

When I look at my A4000 now I have a FastATA4000 connected with a ribbon to a CF card adapter and then a DVD ROM and then another long cable connected to two removable hard drive bays.

This new design would certainly clean up the rat's nest I have at the moment.  Give me thin SATA cables over IDE cables (even "round" ones) any day.

I wonder if AmigaKit are planning on stocking these?
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Yes, we have been selling FastATA with optional SATA adapter as an option for the last year.

I really want to see a picture of these puppies..  The description makes it sound like the sata port and CF slot are on the device itself, but the pictures on elbox look to be of the old model.

I'm definitely interested in collecting this piece as well..  It'd make for a much neater installation..

Does anybody have a picture of the new units?

works great even with the 1200s built-in IDE. I have 2 eSATA ports on my 1200 that I use for all sorts of stuff. I have the FastATA MK IV.

check out this dual converter. I know its expensive, but i know it works in all PIO modes.

Shame they can't put something in the driver to make it break, if you try to use a SATA-II  or SSD drive......

:roflmao:

don't give them any ideas

they already make a driver that can't be put in rom... or work with a custom rom...
