Retina BTL Z3+Picasso96 funnies on A4000
« on: February 26, 2012, 03:31:28 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm not so much a silver surfer as a bald surfer! So please bear with me on this problem.
I hadn't power her up for about 8 months, at first everything looked fine a good solid display on my pc monitor from the o/p of the vga on the Retina card. Then after about 3 minutes the screen froze although the mouse was moving but all mouse clicks were inoperative. The only way out was a power off/on (soft restart did not work). On reboot I was getting no display from the Retina card but if I plugged a Amiga monitor in the standard video o/p of the 4000 I did have a display.
If I used screen mode (in prefs) I could not find any  of the Retina/Picasso screen modes displayed.
If I used Picasso96/Debug/Checkboards it said Picasso96 was not running and i needed to start monitors!
If I used Picasso96Mode for Picasso96 the default screen showed :-
Setting: Retina BLT (1): Village -64
Mode: 256 colour 64kHz 79kHz
Resolution: 1024x768
I tried an alternative resolution and saved the setting, rebooted but still nothing.
Auto configuring boards shows :-
$41000000 16384k zorroIII 16 macrosytems 314159265
I am running Kickstart 39.106 Workbench 39.29
Only other problem I have noticed is that the right mouse clicks do not work, I have tried another mouse from another working A1200 and it is not the mouse, it must be the port.
A few questions I guess;
1. Any thoughts about the Retina card problem?
2. Does the video switch automatically between A4000 video and Retina video?
3. Is the mouse port problem related?
any ideas or thoughts appreciated (but keep it as simple as you can),
Ian

Take the BLT card out and see if your problems go away.  The mouse problem sounds a bit sus. Capacitors on the way out?.  I think you need to start at the basics and work your way up.

Hi  Gertsy,
thanks for yr feedback. Well if I remove the BLT card I still have the (R) mouse click problem so I guess that indicates the BLT card is not the cause of the mouse problem. You refer to possible capacitor problems, are these identifiable/repairable?
Also would this problem prevent the BLT card from outputting any video?

cheers, Ian
