How to copy stuff to my A2000?
« on: February 21, 2012, 03:09:26 PM »
Is there some way i can get files onto my A2000 without using floppies?

Is it easy to set up something using a null modem cable?

If you have a null modem cable then the easiest way is to simply buy a copy of Amiga Forever and use their "Amiga Explorer" software.  The online edition is enough and once installed on your PC it will walk you through installing the software on your Amiga via the serial link.

Yes, there are probably several "free" ways to do it, but a little bit of cash will give you the best solution.  Plus Cloanto's package is (IMHO) well worth the money.

Edit:  Actually, you can even buy without Amiga Forever:

Amiga Explorer is shareware, i.e. it is free to try with no functional limitations. In this way, you can make sure that your hardware and cabling work fine and that the software satisfies your needs before purchasing it.

To install the evaluation software just download it from the link on this page and follow the setup instructions. If you like the software you can purchase a license key at any time.

Thank you to all customers who register the software and contribute to the project.

I used to use an external SCSI drive, a really old school Mac HD. I reformatted it as a PC drive and both the Amiga and PC could read it just fine. These days, I'd look at getting a USB card for the Amiga and just use a flash drive.

IIRC, Amiga Explorer is now free, even though you can still give Cloanto $9.95 for it if you want.

And there are also the USB and thumbdrive or network card and Envoy/Samba routes.

I never could get that stupid amiga explorer to work reliably.

If you would like to try my program you can use it to do the following:

transfer files
search aminet for files
"dial" a bbs
etc..

you need a windows pc with NET 4.0
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851

NULL modem connection(I use a bluetooth serial adapter)
NCOMM or some program with zmodem on the amiga.

you need the zmodem protocols from here:
http://www.extraputty.com/snapshots/Download/sz_tz_zmodem.zip

and just place rz.exe and sz.exe into the BIN folder.

edit the INI file to set the upload/download path.

Thanks for all the replies.

I just remembered that I have an external SCSI CD-ROM drive from my now non-working LCIII. The cable is the same DB25 (i think) connector to the computer.

I would imagine that this would work with the A2000 even though it is Apple branded.

Thing is i have no idea what drivers to use. On my A1200 i use IDE, so IDEfix does the trick but with SCSI i have no idea what software / drivers to use.
