The vast vast majority of games won't work in VGA mode.

A few will (and you can find app's like modepro that can make a few extra work).

If you have the cash spare, get a Dell ST2320L. It works flawlessly in classic PAL modes.

You can't really use a "silver box" adapter for game playing.  Most games don't support DoublePAL, VGAOnly or rarely DoubleNTSC screenmodes.  The ones that do are very slow in these screenmodes because the display DMA has to read each row of pixles twice per display.

If you want to play games on a VGA monitor, you need a better adapter with a scan-doubler built-in.  This will allow you to run games in standard PAL mode or NTSC in a few rare cases.

I managed to get a couple of games running in VGA modes (some using modepro).

UFO, Subwar 2050, Doom, Testament 2, Gloom deluxe, Nemac IV, Warlords and a few others. There was a thread a while back.

It's NOT ideal though, as mentioned.

I'd second the ST2320L. Dell Canada had it on sale for $139 a couple of weeks ago when I ordered mine. Had to adjust the "Pixel clock" (or maybe it was "clock pixel") to get rid of vertical lines in PAL mode, but then it was fine.

ah, I'll have to mess with that. The vertical lines were less of an issue than the old scan doubler I had, but if there's a way to reduce them, I'd be all over that.

Yeah, as you adjust it the lines get further apart then just disappear!! You can even put it in 4:3 mode if you don't want the picture stretched.

Just noticed it's back on sale again!
