Amiga OS on Mac G5 Possible?
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:30:33 PM »
I've notice the prices for refurbed MAC G5 PowerMac's are coming way down. I've seen really nice ones for under $200 now.  I was wondering, is their a version of Amiga OS that runs on one of these?  I'd love to setup a AmigaOS only PC on much newer hardware.  My A2000 is really starting to show its age!

Any ideas, links, suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

PS: I tried searching the forums - but the site search doesn't seem to like me!

Probably possible, but highly unlikely.

MorphOS on G5 Mac might happen though.

It's technologically possible, but hasn't happened for various legal/willpower reasons surrounding the ownership of OS4.

Are you familiar with MorphOS? It runs on many G4 Macs. The development team has gotten it booting on G5s, but it's not clear when/if those versions will see public release.

OS4 - No, Hyperion aren't interested in porting to Macs because that would make sense and give people a cheap path to entry.

MOS - No, MorphOS isn't being ported to G5 Macs yet (or, allegedly, for the foreseeable future.)

AROS - Any Linux that supports powerpc64 architecture should be able to run AROS hosted. One assumes it could be ported to OSX, but I don't know if anyone's done that.

Is it possible?
Of course.
Will it happen?
Nope.

MorphOS on a G5?
Not any time soon (if ever).
Runs great on some G4s though (and they're even cheaper then G5s).

AROS?
Just buy an X86.
