My USB is not working...
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:03:47 AM »
Hey guys,

I installed the USB SUB into my Amiga 1200 as instructed and it is safe, there is no fire, no explosion and no melting and damaging motherboard and USB SUB. The Amiga 1200 boots SWEETLY! I want to thank you guys for helping me get the installation done correctly.

However, there is another problem on my face and that is the USB does not work. Meaning, when I put a USB device the computer does not detect it and there is no activity happening. Can someone help me on this matter? Thanks in advance.

Have you installed the software? Poseidon needs to be installed but after that, I've found that you may need to run some additional commands:

Try this and see if it jump starts it. Open a shell and type

addusbhardware devs:usbhardware/subwayusb.device 0
addusbclasses

After a moment (if something is plugged in), or after you plug something in, you should see a bunch of annoying dialogs popup that indicate you've plugged in some USB devices. Things should work.

If this solves the issue for you, you can add those lines to the bottom of your S:User-Startup file.

There is no need to put any additional command AFAIK.
At least I never had to, in my years of experience with Subways and Denebs.

First of all... and since you don't state... is your Amiga having an accelerator with RAM?
Also make sure you install Poseidon correctly and after a reboot (to give User-Startup the chance to load PsdStackLoader) open Trident from SYS:Prefs and add subwayusb.device under Controller and hit Online.

If everything was done correctly you should have a green light next to the declaration.
Hit SAVE and you're set for good.

You are 100% correct. It works now!! 100%

Do you guys think it is too much for the clockport of the Amiga 1200 to buy a USB ethernet card and hook my Amiga 1200 into high speed internet connection using the USB?

Not it's not :)
It works just fine. Just be cautious on what adapter to buy. Not all USB adapters are compatible with Poseidon's classes.

I have always had my eyes on this little guy for my Amiga 1200. I really believed this design suited my toy very well, how can I tell if it is compatible though? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=443248&CatId=589

Possible AX88772 chipset.

AROS compatility says "TrendNet TU2-ET100 v2, untested ver2 but v3.0r (2007) uses newer AX88772 no support"

I was just digging through my junk and found a SMC 2202USB/ETH. That uses a RTL8150 chip which I think is a Pegasus II. I can test to see if it works if you would like to try and find one of those.

I bought it over 15 years ago. I never throw anything away...

I can confirm that it is. There's one hooked up to my machine right now.

Really?

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!! But i heard that the PCMCIA is way faster for internet browsing and downloading than a USB Ethernet on an Amiga 1200.

A shame these cool little cards went out of stock at AmigaKit a few days ago.

I guess because of the Chris Hodges, Michael Böhmer feud, this is also the the end of Subway.

it probably uses less CPU overhead anyway... Posidion uses like 15% CPU on my (060) system just running a mouse.

Subway (when connected to a 1200's clockport) is limited to 250K/sec max on mass storage devices, and probably has the same speed limitation as mass storage.

You said you can confirm it! But when I ordered it and used it on my A1200 it says that there is no class that supports the device and it is not working. How did you manager to get it working? Thanks in advance.
