disks with white labels fake?

I looking to hunt down lotus III again and found one on ebay boxed :)
However, on closer inspection, the games label on the disks have been printed on white labels. I checked other auctions annoyingly with higher prices on them with the disks having Lotus III  printed onto the disks itself. i.e. no labels.
Now I really dont know much about amigas so I hope you guys can help but, does this mean that the printed disks are fake or perhaps are they a second reprint?

It could be fake as you said, but I had a look on ebay and I also noticed the Atari ST versions of Lotus III are also with a printed label. (different sellers as well)
And all the labels have the same layout. So I think it's a reprint.

Hi, I have boxed versions of both the Amiga and Atari versions of Lotus III, both with white labels on the disks. The Atari one's still even got the poster in the box! :)

Most Amiga games were (re)released several different times by several different publishers in several different countries. There really isn't a standard look for an individual game. Civilization is a good example. My own copy has a label that differs from all of these and looks like it was done on someone's Inkjet, but it's legit through and through.

Here's Lotus III.

Once you start getting into 1994, 1995, or later, the packaging budget for Amiga games typically goes way down and you'll see more printed labels.

Download copies and make your own disks. It's the only way to be sure (that it's an illegitimate copy).

awesome! Thanks all for the very helpful reply's. I didnt even know some games have more then one different labels :)
By the information I have got, it looks like a reprint and the seller has got a very good feedback and its been tested.

Hate to agree with Jorkany - but if you feel you're buying bunk disks off eBay, I'd rather see you just download them and not fill the pockets of scumbags.  "Piracy" vs. some guy doing piracy to scam people out of coin on eBay, I know which one I'd take.

If they aren't originals, they are likely merely only worth the media they are printed on, in my findings with eBay.

Some PC games also had (re)prints with white labels. I've owned two different original Wolfenstein  games. One printed and the other a white label job. The difference in this case was that one was a retail box, the other came with a PC as part of the software bundle.

I own LOTUS III bought it when it came out and it was as the supplied pic, white labels. I am sure its a legit copy

hmm, I also wondered about it. Perhaps that CAPS/SPS dump util can somehow identify fakes, by comparing them with known originals?

if it is boxed you can confide is legit
but if the game is not boxed you can suspect because today anyone can make fake games using a printer to print stickers and a kryoflux to make the copy from .ipf file
and the game will be idem to an original

Over the years developers often would make labels as cheap as possible to save some money. Especially on reprints. The box looks legit so I wouldnt worry.
