An open request to ALL of you here.
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:34:47 AM »
So the owner of Amiga.org has finally revealed his identity, despite personally thinking it probably isn't important and that the only thing of importance was to save the site when Wayne was ready to throw the towel in(?).

He has also stated he is quite a private person in the recent ART 53 episode.

I login for the first time in ages and there is already a whole load of accusations about why his name was removed minutes after the post about ART 53, with the worst possible reasons being assumed without any basis in fact. Clearly in hindsight we can all agree that was done to allow us to enjoy a little bit of the suspense for the first 7 minutes of the show!

Now this sort of attitude and bickering between us all WILL destroy the community, so I am asking you all to think about what you post here and not just let things degenerate into the sort of trigger happy posting negative forums like the old Counter Strike or Need For Speed forums.

Clearly we are all here because we still have affection for this machine, whether we choose to keep the dream going by running an emulator, buying hardware to run AROS/MOS/OS4, waiting for NATAMI or REPLAY etc or even just keeping an old Amiga from the 80s/90s still working should not matter.

OK I admit it is tempting to shun Commodore USA products for various reasons (behaviour of Altman, their track record, veiled AIO PC with emulator not a real Amiga argument etc etc) BUT the important thing is when we disagree we should just make our opinion or supporting facts known in such threads to show our objection/alternative mindset in a respectful manner.

There are too few of us left who still do anything Amiga related in the grand scheme of things, we are getting crushed under the wheels of the pathetic Microsoft juggernaut of bloatware which will never cease and is forever eroding the memory of true genius and elegance in both OS and hardware design that is Amiga.

Try and enjoy each others company, share our wealth of collective knowledge from an absurdly wide ranging scope and just try and keep this place something to be proud of.

Ted has told you his name now (not that the name actually rings any bells with me anyway), so we can now move on and just enjoy ALL things Amiga, and where we don't agree have civil discussions about differences with positive outcomes to improve things for ALL Amiga fans from whatever camp they have now ended up in since the demise of Commodore in 1994.

I for one would also like to thank Ted for not only keeping this site alive but also for the distinct lack of overt in your face advertising on a website that can achieve 100gb a month of traffic.

Well said.

We should all learn to tolerate each other and respect our individual tastes as to which flavour of Amiga suits us best, be it AOS, MOS or AROS or whatever. Working together, cross-porting apps from one OS to the other, that way we can thrive.

I don't care who runs the show here and never have.  It's a good place for open debate, helping others etc.  The forums filter on the name was stupid, no matter how much it's being sold as "suspense building".  It was dumb and childish, just like the filter on commodore usa was.

No one was sitting up nights figuring who the A.org owner was, aka Ted ******* figuring it was a *******ed Batman/Bruce Wayne deal.  He bought a website.  As long as he doesn't start spamming Wang lengthening pills adverts to my email address, or he changes A.org in really bad ways - he's pretty decent by me: as far as guys who run/own websites go.  This is not "the question everyone wanted to know", lol.  No one cares who runs their forums sites.  There's plenty of Amiga news for shows/podcasts.

To Transition, listening to the podcast now - I respect your privacy, and eager to hear what you have to say.

I'm caught up in this spirit of openness, and as such I have decided to at long last reveal my true identity! Now for the big reveal: I am **** *********.

I don't care who runs the site, nothing seems to have changed since he took it over so why the fuss? If the guy wants to foot the bill, all well by me.

As long as my posts are subject to review and censorship, I would like to know the entities responsible for these practices.

So, yes, I'd like to know who owns Amiga.org.

All these threads popping up... I think you need to give the guy a break... just put yourself in his shoes for a moment... he deserves to share the same amount of privacy that we all enjoy.

As for the future some integration with Twitter and more especially Facebook would be most welcome.  Facebook trawls websites that it finds links to - twice a day so I am led to believe potentially increasing traffic.

Also on-trend is being able to register/login on a website by 'Signing in through Google+, Facebook, Twitter' accounts - I am sure that would increase membership as everyone loves being able to sign-up to/for something at the click of a single button.

Personally, I don't care about the name of the owner.  I don't know who owns half (well, really, most of) the forum sites I use, and it suits me fine since my real interaction with them involves the moderators and users.  Of course, I am pretty certain I could easily discover who owns or runs most of them quite easily should I try.

I suppose my real point here is that knowing a person's name does not really tell me much about whether I would want to associate with them without additional research which I am not likely to do -- for better or worse.

In the case of AO, I'm quite happy with the way things are, and I'm not going anywhere unless the mods seriously piss me off.  Which hasn't happened, and doesn't seem likely to.

I'm not overly interested in the person running the place provided the course remains to provide us shelter, help, support, comradery, and doesn't become some dodgy front for devilish sites like Megaupload or other politically unsavory place. (joke attached there.)  Though I might be wont to set the fella up with a round should we encounter in a pub.

Cheers.

No, no, NO! We have enough whackjobs here as it is, do you really want to let every yahoo with a Facebook page in? As for "integration," in my experience that works out to "sitting and waiting for the page to finish loading while a choked-up Facebook CDN/Google Analytics server struggles to provide a 'Like' button graphic/who the hell even knows." That's the last thing we need.
