This is Amiga.org. It thrives on negativity towards anything at all to do with OS4, simple as that.

That's entirely unfair. There are literally a handful of people that this statement could be used to describe.

Yes, *you* can call it "Amiga", and *I* can call it "Amiga" (I could even call my MacMini/MorphOS system an "Amiga", although I don't, since it was a long time the trade mark lost its meaning to me)

still sour grape after morphos lost the amiga brand battle to hyperion...  its time to get over it.

@Daedalus

Most companies when they produce a Gold Master of a new piece of software they detail out what has been changed/updated.  So far as I can tell from this announcement the only thing that has improved in 4.1.5 is the third number....

Most of us have owned and used amigas since the 80's/90's I really was hoping that childish bickering was a thing of the past.
I really love the amiga, and for me its either classic 68k or ppc aso4.x Personally I don't check a.org to get the latest petty quarrels, but to read news about the amiga.

Personally I could really do with out some of you guys.. Shame!

People can say whatever they like, but bottom line the machine depicted in the image below is the new Amiga, no "quotation" marks necessary:

@djrikki

I can call my AROS box an Amiga, you can call Natami Amiga, so long as we are not producing the machines and not using it in an official way, we can do as we like.  When you use it in a press release about an Amiga one you are violating someone's trademark.  But of course A-Eon has been violating Warner Brother's Trademark and images on 2001 a space odessey for quite a while, so they probably feel they are small enough no one would bother pressing trademark violations against them.

(Edit: Hmm, "djrikki", aren't you the guy behind the http://amigaos.net/ site, that tried to deceive people about OS4's capabilities? http://i40.tinypic.com/2af9xi.jpg?)

Ahh a blue butterfly means MorphOS right... last time I looked the domain name was Amiga.org... oh well guess grandma has nothing better to do than moan and bicker... must be jealousy creeping in...

Please spare us with brains from your pointless venom.

AmigaOne = Amiga
Amiga = AmigaOne

No, no, no.

You are using the mathematical sign "equals to" above.

But in those legal conditions that builds *THE VERY GROUND FOR HYPERION'S OS4* there can't be no equal signs there! They aren't allowed!

besides it was a personal quote so he can say whatever he wants.

No, his words were part of an *Official Press Release*! He is speaking on behalf of one of the corporations enjoying the license agreement between the Amiga IP owner and Hyperion!

The title of item is "AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 CD for the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" system has gone GOLD"

The subject topic is the update 5 CD for X1000. Thus, one would at lest expect to hear what are the improvements in the update 5, if any.

Additionally one would at least expect to learn what HW will be supported by this update.

  • Does this update enable the 2nd CPU core to be used?
  • Does this update enable the use of more than 2GB of the system memory?
  • Does this update enable built-in audio?
  • Does this update enable built-in SATA?
  • Does this update enable built-in USB?
  • Is there 3D support for the graphics cards included?
  • Does this update enable/utilize the much praised XMOS chip?

AFAIK the 2nd CPU core isn't used from 4.1. As for the rest, given that beta-testers are, and have been using, the system for a while, you're better off asking them. My guess is beta-testing would have been ever so slightly hampered if the SATA, USB, didn't work, I lean towards assuming that they do work.

I for one would be quite interested to hear what exactly can be expected from the system while waiting for the mysterious 4.2 release.

So I assume, given your intense interest, that you're looking to buy one? I'm fairly sure that the 4.2 release isn't "mysterious".

Piru, I appreciate your coding skills, but please consider how you come across with these type of posts. Trevor has poured thousands of ponds into getting the X-1000 into existence and deserves nothing but credit. Most people left in the Amiga scene will have spent a fair amount of cash on their systems over the years, but I doubt if any have spent as much as Trevor. He's bought systems for OS4, MorphOS, Aros, etc.

If you're not going to buy one of these, then please respect the intentions of people that will. You know we do have minds of our own and can make our own decisions without the benefit of your immense X1000 and OS 4 knowledge. I promise that you'll be the first person I'll ask if I get stuck :-)

That`s great, a new update in just few weeks, an upcomming totally new OS version, plus support for a brand new MoBo.
I`m looking forward to buy the new OS (4.2), and if MOS could run on my MoBo I would even buy it just to try it and support the community.
2012 will be a great AMiGA year.
