Where is pin 1 on an Amiga kit floppy drive ?
« on: January 28, 2012, 09:25:28 AM »
Hi there,

Can anyone tell me which pin is pin 1 on the data connector for an Amiga kit supplied floppy drive ?
Is is the pin closest the power connector ?  Or furthest away ?

Thanks!

Mark

Usually pin is the closest to the power connector, and you can't connect in wrong way because the cable only connects in the correct side.

It\'s my new CHAMELEON 64 A C64 or an AMIGA ?

99% of the time the pin 1 is marked on the circuit side. Check if is there.
You may see a 1 and 33 on the component side indicating the pin position.

I can't  see anything written on the drive itself, and I don't know what model drive it is (since there is an Amigakit sticker over things)  And the cable will go on either way around.

It should;t break things if I get i wrong, but just in case ..

I'll flick Amiga kit an email and see if I get a reply this money ;-)

You are kidding me :lol: The greatest pleasure in buying stuff from AmigaKit is that AmigaKit sticker!!! Every item I buy from AmigaKit must have that awesome AmigaKit sticker, the disk, bag, the item, it is pleasurable! It gives me this giddy, retro, oh the 80's back kinda thing. It makes me feel like Amiga is alive and kicking again and part of the industry ones more.

I have plugged backwards countless time and never damaged the MB or the drive. The pin signals are wired so damage can not be done.
The way you know the cable is backwards is that the LED is always lit, and it may take longer to boot from HD or see the insert workbench disk.
But most of the time pin 1 in on the inside of the drive. I just checked 3 drives and all 3 have pin 1 on the inside, not outside.
