Floppy Drive Issue
« on: January 28, 2012, 08:55:35 AM »
Now I got my first game for amiga. It's Insanity Fight, but can someone here figure out what's the matter with my floppy drive. I turn my Amiga 500 on, what is connected temporarily via mono video output to tv. I get this screen: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/76flf  Then I put my game inside to floppy drive and it starts loading. Game loads, but graphics are messed up. Here's picture from game's title screen: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/kjkaq  And there another picture from game: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/cs7yh  And finally there's picture of gameplay  http://www.freeimagehosting.net/849w6  So any suggestions? Is this a dirty floppy? All I know is that this machine hasn't been used at many years and game is in perfect condition...

Sorry from bad english.. Thanks -Eemil:)
Just some beginner stuff: 2 Amiga 500s, external FD, 512kb expansion mem, RGB Scart, some random joysticks , Amiga mouse (Tank model) and some floppies... And a dead Commodore 64C with Datassette cassette drive and RGB->composite wire. And some tapes, self made with computer and normal recordable cassette deck :)

I doubt it's a dirty floppy, as the game has loaded fine... I think you need to check the Denise chip as that is responsible for generating the video display.

But doesn't the Denise chip show the kickstart screen where hand holding floppy?

Maybe PAL game on NTSC setup or vice versa?

Try something more system friendly like Workbench or Deluxe Paint just to make sure it's not your graphics chips, but it kind of looks like what happens when you get the modulo registers wrong.

Hi Mrs Beanbag!

I don't have Workbench or Deluxe Paint. My system is from Germany, and I think that it is PAL:) My game should be PAL, but I'm not 100% sure...

Thanks -Eemil

I think it's either the disk or your disk drive.  I had the same problem with my A1200 trying to load Bionic Commando a while ago.  I thought it was an AGA compatibility issue.  The solution was that it eventually fixed itself! -- I know, that never happens.  So my guess is that the disk and/or your drive is mucky and needs cleaning.  Definitely get your hands on some other games to test out.

Hi!
Now I have copy of Workbench 1.3.2 (What Mrs. Beanbag recommended to me). Workbench doesn't have any graphical errors. I think that it would be region problem, because I don't know what region insanity fight is, but I do know that Workbench is region free, so you can use same Workbench on NTSC or on PAL system. My Amiga 500 is PAL.

Thanks -Eemil
