Problem getting A1200 online

I'm trying to get my a1200 online. The a1200 has a pcmcia network card and i am using the software which comes with AmigaOS 3.9.

I installed the driver from the cd which came with the network card and chose it in genesis. My problem was when it asks me for the ip address. Since genesis does not support dhcp i chose to manually enter the ip address.

I have no idea what to enter exactly but my ip range is 192.168.1.xx so i tried 3 or 4 entries sort of like 192.168.1.55 etc.. etc..

When i click connect the indicator in genesis goes green and says its connected and my imac which the network cable is connected to says that a network cable is connected in network settings but there is no internet on the a1200 as it connect to any websites.

My imac receive internet via wifi and i usually share it to a pentium4 pc by sharing the wifi connection over ethernet using the macs network settings without any problems.

In this case i am instead of connecting the pc to the macs ethernet port i am connecting the amiga.

On the pentium4 pc open a dos window and enter

ipconfig /all

Use the same DNS server and default gateway for the Amiga. The DNS server is entered on the Resolv tab of the interface in GenesisPrefs.

Not always.  Gateway IP depends on how your router is configured, quite a lot use 192.168.x.x as a default setting. Mine came with 192.168.0.254 as default.  As for DNS, you can use your routers IP, as long as the router does DNS forwarding etc, otherwise you'll usually need to use whatever DNS IP's your ISP gives you.

Most 'pre-configured by your ISP' routers will have DHCP enabled, so you can give that a try if Genesis/Miami/AmiTCP supports it (they probably do, but I can't remember).

Now about IP addresses info:
My IP addy is 192.168.0.3 for my laptop.my router is 192.168.0.1 thats your gateway btw so if I want IP for my A1200 it wound be 192.168.0.2 or 4.
If you have a router all the IPs and DNS IPs are all on there so you just copy them from there.. goto your settings screen in a browser mine is 192.168.0.1 yours might be different IP.
Thats what I did when I didn't want my laptop changing the internal IP address (the 192.168.0.3) hope this helps..

If you have OS 3.9 then I think it comes with a TCP/IP stack, not sure about 3.5, if you 3.1 or less then you will need to download a stack. I use amitcp 3.02b which is freely available on WB 3.1, there are guides on the net explaining how to setup.
