Amiga OS 101 I'm afraid
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:42:48 PM »
Hi Guys:  Anyone know of or have a book on Amiga OS (specifically Workbench) or what would be a good 3rd party book?

My question is probably very basic, but if you don't ask, you never know :-)

How do you get a list of the the installed devices on your system and this does kind of go along with my serial communications projects that I am doing!  I specifically want to know how I can direct Ncomm (still looking for a good basic overview or manual for this as well) to a different serial port than the built in one?  My A2000 has a serial card with two ports and also my GVP accelerator (040) has a serial port (maybe 2) on it as well.

It seems upon initial feeling, that our Classic OS is a little like UNIX where all the devices are in the /dev directory... I get the feeling this is the same approach Commodore took -- correct me if I am wrong, but still want to see what devices are installed on my box and since I just removed the video toaster board and TBC card, I will want to make sure to remove those .device files if possible and do this correctly naturally.

Thanks for any help.

Mike
