M-Tec 68020
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:12:08 PM »
Hi Have installed a M-Tec 68020 board on  my A2000.
When I change the jumper to 020 mode, computer wont boot.
68000 mode, works fine.
Memory does not seem to register either way. (4mb )
I have tried every combination of jumpers, with/with out memory,
Taken out all the boards, and it still wont work.
Should I assume the board is fried?(no visible burn marks)

My Amiga:
A2000 Rev 6
A2091 , 0k, V6.1 boot roms
A2058 with 2 mb
3.1 rom on MB
Scsi CD/HD
Floppy

Thanks for help!
David

Hi David,

Do you not get the ROM boot screen or anything else?  i had one in my 500 with the A590 hard drive (which is almost identical to the 2091 as far as I know).  My machine would not boot from HD
Any time I had the RAM enabled on the MTec, but in your case it sounds like maybe the board isnt functional at all.

If you do have a HD boot issue, I was able to sort of work around that issue, and I can tell you how,    but I eventually switched to a different HD controller which solved the problem.

it seems that your accelerator is damaged because also memory doesn't works
if you have an A500 you can try it and check if works

Thanks,
I do not get anything, no color change on monitor, nothing.
If I want to try it on an A500, do I just plug it in to the processor socket as I did in the 1000?

Do I need any additional settings to tell Amiga I have additional memory? I tried the add32bit, and it locks up the computer - thus enforcing a dead board I bet...

Yes in an A500 it should just plug in same as the A1k.  It's been a while but i think the board has two modes, autoconfig or not, and in non autoconfig mode you have to run add32bit for the ram to be recognized.  This is controlled from jumpers on the board.  If yours wont even give the insert disk screen it doesnt sound promising, but maybe there is some incompatibility with th A1000...  Have you tried reseating the CPU on the board (the 020)?

Again my memory is a bit foggy now but I think the board has a math coprocessor socket and a jumper to enable it, any chance that jumper is set and don't have the copro installed?

The jumpers are explained on thr BBoAH:

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=80

Looks like there is no math copro jumper but maybe the CIA jumper they mention would help you..  oh and is there a 68k chip in the socket on the accelerator?
