Blizkick problems
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:24:35 PM »
I dont get how to use Blizkick. I do not want to change my rom as i am happy with the kickstart 3.1 rom but i want to make my A1200 (blizzard 1260) faster.

I tried using localfast but it wont work

If in startup-sequence i add the following:

c:blizkick localfast

or

c:blizkick speedrom localfast or c:blizkick module localfast

I get a couldnt load kickstart failure.

If i do

c:blizkick * localfast it says something about the file being too large then cant load module and i think error 10.

whats going on?

Is there any way to get it working to speed things up?

Have you considered reading the docs??? As described therein you have to add extresbuf to the command line to plant modules. So RTFM

This is how I run Blizkick on Blizzard 1240/40:

C:BlizKick SYS:ROMs/rom40068 SPEEDROM EXTRESBUF=131072 FixMath404 RomFixes LocalFast SpeedyIDE NoClick BBlank QUIET

The rom40068 has only 84 bytes free space so if you want to use extra modules/features, the space need to be expanded with EXTRESBUF option.

I did it like this now:

C:Blizkick * Speedrom localfast extresbuf=131072

The Amiga when switched on will reboot and then load up to workbench.

That sounds right aye?

What i would like to know is where should i look for speed differences with the above settings?

Also i copied your extesbuf number. Is that good ? should i determine the number based on my config?

Sorry for all the questions. I am getting the hang of it and i did read the docs but it always helps getting feedback from experienced users :)

Also try "romfixes" module, it fixes quite a lot of bugs (see readme).

You should also download and install FBlit and FText

That would make your miggy much faster and save chip ram, so that yopu can start all games from workbench.

Read this:

http://www.gregdonner.org/os39faq/compatibility.html

Games like napalm runs much smoother if you promote them to fast ram with FBlit, I've also promoted wb without any problems.
ACube Sam 440ep Flex 800mhz, 1gb ram and 240gb hd and OS4.1FE
A1200 Micronic tower, OS3.9, Apollo 060 66mhz, xPert Merlin, Delfina Lite and Micronic Scandy, 500Gb hd, 66mb ram, DVD-burner and WLAN.
A1200 desktop, OS3.9, Blizzard 060 66mhz, 66mb ram, Ide Fix Express with 160Gb HD and WLAN
A500 OS2.1, GVP+HD8 with 4mb ram, 1mb chip ram and 4gb HD
Commodore CDTV KS3.1, 1mb chip, 4mb fast ram and IDE HD

The extresbuf number is OK. It provides you with lot of extra ROM space so any module/feature you add later will fit. For example "KingCON" module is the most memory hungry, it needs about 65535 bytes.
