FILE SUFFIX
« on: January 09, 2004, 06:58:33 PM »
Hi All,
I recently downloaded software that I believe to be a driver utility for a Zorro slot IDE controller I acquired with an A-2000 I bought on eBay.  A memebr here on this forum pointed me toward the place to dload this file.  It has a file suffix that I do not recognize.  I am curious to know how to install this.  The file is TandomCD.dms.  I am not familiar with the ".dms" suffix.  Is this some kind of compression format and if so what do I use to open it? Can anybody here help me with this?

Dave

I seem to remember this was the suffix used by the disk masher program - I think its shareware, you could always try aminet??

It used to be used by a lot of the old Amiga magazines to compress thier cover disks but be warned it normally requires a free floppy to extract to (or used to on the version I used).

Yes... DiskMasher, or just DMS, create/extract .dms files and those files are compressed floppys so need a free floppy to extract them. And yes DiskMasher can be found on AmiNet.

If I recall correctly the XAD library should be able to unpack DMS archives. No floppys needed! :-)

Just download XAD library and the very nice frontend Vodoo-X from Aminet. And you have an unpacker similar to WinZip on PC.

Yes, xadmaster can extract DOS disks (some NDOS disks too which are supported) and DMS archives.
Voodoo-X is a great frontend, as it also checks for virii when extracting files if you have xvs.library. But if you have OS3.9, then xadmaster.library is installed by default and there is a tool called "UnArc" in SYS:Tools/ which is like Voodoo-X, but not that powerfull enough, just a simple frontend :)
