OS 3.9 question

Hi,

So i have moved over to OS 3.9 which came pre-installed on a 6gb hard-drive.

I'm having some problems installing files...WhDload, Dopus etc. When i double click on their install tools a message appears saying "unable to open"

So is there something else i need to add to my OS 3.9 set up to allow these files to auto install as they should?

(Incidentally i am using 1200 2b mobo with a blizzard 1220 8mb with fpu 33mhz)

Hmm a new installer? For both WHDLoad and Dopus? that seems too coincidental, or do you mean a new installer for OS 3.9?

I am quite sure that it tells you exactly what it is unable to open. If you are unable to exactly quote the error message, then you may not expect reasonable help.

'installer' is not in your path. Check to see if it is actually on your system somewhere (I think it is in Utilities or C normally) and ensure there it is in the path set up by the startup-sequence. It is probably in utilities as if it was in C there is unlikely to be a problem.

The alternative is to change the default tool type on the icon you are clicking to point to the full path (eg: SYS:Utilities/installer, assuming it is actually in that location). That could potentially be a real pain. Ensuring it is in your path is more effective.

This is the Installer for AmigaOS3.1  you can copy it to your C: drawer, it should work. And ensure that there are no other older "installer" files in your utilities or tools directory.

The 3.9 installer can be found on the AmigaOS3.9 CD which can be bought from various Amiga shops.

Ok thanks i'll try that tomorrow and see how i get on.

Do you think it will be ok just to drag and drop the files into C: as i don't have dopus installed (because of this installer problem, argh!)

Also, how do i install system performance on OS3.9, previously when i set up a CF card on winuae all these utilities seemed to autoinstall with wb 3.1?!

FallenOne has given you a link to all you should need, though I thought 3.9 came with it's own installer ... Check the CD if you have it, too.

BTW. The "install" command in the C: directory is for installing bootblocks onto floppy disk and is completely unrelated to program installations.

Installer V43 is not good for OS 3.9. It lacks important functions. Installer V44 should have been copied to Utilities during installation of OS 3.9. Find it on the OS 3.9 CD and copy it to Utilities manually.

The problem is that on a fresh install of OS 3.9 - The tool 'Installer' is in the Tools drawer.

Some installations expect installer tool to be kept in the C Drawer.

I usually copy installer from Tools, into C - so it's in both places.

Oh also, stick with the installer that comes with 3.9 - it's always worked for me - I think the other installers on Aminet etc are for OS 3.0 and 3.1.

I was trying to decide whether it was in Tools or Utilities, but I couldn't get to a 3.9 machine to check so I thought I'd guess, I should have remembered to end with afair
