flicker fixer issues
« on: November 29, 2011, 10:44:58 PM »
I bought a home made flicker fixer scan doubler off ebay and have a few issues which I wondered if anybody else has had? First workbench does not look great lines scanning across and the image "wobbles". In games the image is good but only takes up the top part of the screen leaving around a third of the bottom blank. This is with an amiga 1200, Over the weekend I am going to test it with an amiga 500 and a tv with VGA in. Should I try and get a refund or are flicker fixers generaly not perfect? Really dissapointed being as this cost £100 and I  was expecting great things!!

btw: AGA machines require 24 bit flicker fixers, older models will limit you to 4096 colors.

A decent FF is near perfect. The only problem to expect is ghosting with rapid movement (in interlaced modes).

I did take a video of it on my phone but it is not the best quality and quite hard to tell the crap quality of the camera from the crap quality of the flicker fixer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KieoAz5_J_w

There are lines going diagonally across the screen they go one way for a  while then reverse direction. It defiantly isn't near perfect! He has agreed to do a return but I have still wasted £10 on p+p :(

I had a similar problem with mine, the sceen would freeze but the 5% of the top screen would work. I wast do to the converter nor supporting the PAL resolution. In your case it may not supprt your current video resolution.
Try to change the Amiga resolution to NTSC or PAL which ever you are not using and see if the problem goes away.
do you cave close up or model number of the ff?

I tried all available resolutions in workbench but to no avail. It doesn't have a model number or anything like that on it... should of been a sign! The link to it is below:

I would strongly advise avoiding it!

Your FF is based on this one: GBS-8220

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arcade-game-RGB-CGA-EGA-YUV-VGA-HD-video-converter-board-1-VGA-output-/250893072432?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a6a647830

I have the same one, and it works OK in NTSC mode for me, but the PAL is giving me problems, the Flicker fixer is actually good on this one, in interlace mode the screen is rock solid.

There are some people in this forum that say it works good for them, maybe you have a dud.

Hi,

Part of your problem is power related. There is a limit, maybe 0.5A maximum on the +5V supply from the port. A GBS-8220 requires 2.0 Amps at 5V.

Are you using a higher wattage power supply? An A500 PSU that can source 4.5A (check label underneath) or a modified AT/ATX PSU is ideal.

Did you get the refund agreed?

I played SlamTilt a lot waaaaaaaaaaaay back but I don't remember it being in interlace?

But I was probably playing it on a different computer anyway.

How would I force SlamTilt into interlace mode?

If think Stedy is on the right track - on what I can make out it looks like a power/grounding issue.
