You can't - except using diskmontools. Probably copying to another drive and then copying back is faster.

Yes. I have never defragged an Amiga drive and don't intend to.

Ditto. Regarding cooling fans, only time I'd ever bugger with that is if you have an overclocked 030 or an 040/060 and/or an Indivision AGA installed. Otherwise, leave it alone unless you feel lots of heat coming through the case.

Generally fragmentation is not too bad with FFS. Most defrag programs are old and could cause problems for little gain from defragging. If you are worried about HD performance or fragmentation then I would recommend you try PFS 3 which is better at both...

It's good to have a cooling fan for almost any 68040 IMHO. The 68030 and 68060 don't need it unless overclocked.

Hi thanks very much,i dont have any thing overclocked ,and there is not a lot of heat coming out of the case ,but i do use the Matrix accelerator ,and that gets a little warm ,the only problem i have with my 1200 is with the sound, the games sounds are awesome and no problems there ,but i have a lot of problems with the mp3 s and the amplifier ,after a few songs have played it freezes up ,and i have to reboot ,and the same thing happens again ,i thought she might be getting a little hot ,hence the mention of cooling fans.

The only thing that defragging may help a lot is when making big backup operations; with a fragmented drive the read operation may take ages.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my take is that defragging has always been digital snake oil. No two apps read data the in the same sequence. What's optimal for one will likely be inefficient for the other 131.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.
