I need a special disk
« on: October 29, 2011, 05:39:56 PM »
Dear Friends:

I need a special disk that can be read on my amiga external floppy drive (I think is a
880 kb on pc1 )and also be read on my pentium pc internal floppy disk drive.
This way, I can make nice pics on my pc lightwave and transfer to my amiga to
use them on amospro.
I used to have the disk, and it lasted many good years, but it just got corrupted.
I tried to format a new disk on my pc to use it on both machines but could not
get it to work.
Can a kind soul please help me get this special disk ?
I will pay you well if needed.

Thank you !!!

You just need a 720 KB double density PC-style (FAT) formatted disk. It seems your Amiga is already set up to use it. The Amiga can't read/write high density 1440 KB disks.

You can recognize DD disks for not having a hole opposite the write protection hole with the slider. You can use any Amiga disk and reformat it on the PC.

Most likely write without quotes "format a:" and press enter on a DOS prompt in your PC.
If the floppy in question is a 720kb floppy and you only have one floppy drive unit in that PC.

Would be 3.x, so Gullivers advice works just fine.  Format on PC, should show up as a PC disk on the Amiga.

Good luck!

Don't forget to cover the extra hole (the one without the little tab in it) with some tape so the PC's floppy drive thinks it's a DD disk and not a HD disk. Wrap the tape around the side so it covers both the front and back of the hole.

No need for that, as he is having DD disks... (see Rednova's post)

Since it is an external floppy drive and not the original internal floppy drive inside the A1200, it could have possibly been a HD 1.44mb floppy disk drive, but probably not, as they are fairly rare (I have one though, the slim one made by Dell for the Amiga).

I would have suggested to format it using Cross-DOS on the Amiga and then put it into the PC to see if Windows could read it, by clicking on the PC1 icon and choosing format in the menu, but that is just me.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
