Using CD32 joystick on A1200
« on: October 28, 2011, 05:19:29 PM »
I use a CD32 controller on my A1200 but only 1 button works.

I would love it if at least i can have the 2nd button working for games like Street Fighter II or B.C Kid which have the option of a 2 button controller.

Is this possible?

Mine is the comp pro version but both buttons work fine.

Theres a few joystick test apps on aminet to verify the controller is working.

It's down to the game really - the A1200 itself has no technical reason it can't use all the buttons, but games which are A1200-specific versions are probably coded to only use one button. The CD32 version of the game will use all the buttons without issues, if you have a CD-ROM drive and can get it to run via IDE-Fix or some other CD32 loader...

hah yes, make sure the game supports it. Check Turrican 2 or Alien Breed 2 for examples of games that supports 2 buttons for sure.

Gloom should play well with a CD32 pad as well.

B.C Kid and Street Fighter II both support 2 Button joysticks but with the CD32 pad only 1 button works.

Hmmm... My understanding was that two of the buttons on the CD32 corresponded to the left and right mouse buttons, i.e. were simple on or off, wired directly to the LMB and RMB pins on the port, and the last remaining pin was used to switch to multi-button mode where the rest of the buttons could be read. If you plug a mouse into the port and press the buttons does it behave like two buttons? You could also try a Megadrive / Genesis controller which followed almost the same pin configuration, so two of the buttons would work on the Amiga.

I always use a CD32 joypad on my A1200.  Make sure you're not using it with a cheap mouse switch as they sometimes only pass through one or two buttons.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

No mouse switcher, its connected directly to the port. Could the port be damaged?

I'm launching the games through WhdLoad. Could it be some option in Workbench or WhdLoad?

I think you need to download the drivers from Microsoft's web site.

Microsoft?? Why ? This is a real Amiga.

I just tried B.C Kid from floppy (Not WhdLoad) and both buttons work. So the port must be fine.

Also tried Midnight Resistance WHDLoad and set the Custom1=3 for CD32 controls and both buttons work.

WhdLoad or Workbench then ??

WHDLOAD DAMNIT!

I am glad you are also experiencing this problem, dougal. I had a feeling all my Amiga hardware was failing, but I get the exact same results. Games that aren't using WHDLoad work fine with CD32 and 2-button controls, but they're all failing with WHDLoad. They never used to, it's just been in the last version or two that I've experienced this problem on my Amigas.

I wish we could report it but they probably won't believe us that there's a bug.

Yes, must be a bug for sure. I have Bckid original on floppy and 2nd button using a Megadrive joypad worked fine.

On WhdLoad it did not, neither SF2 nor Wizkid.

;) At last, a funny answer.

BTW - I have two Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepads that Microsoft doesn't even offer current drivers for.
