Anyway to disable fast ram with M-Tec accelerator ?
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:47:38 PM »
I have an M-Tec 42Mhz 68030 accelerator with 8MB.

PCMCIA does not work with the 8MB.

Is there any way via software or key presses during reset so that i can disable the ram when i want to use my PCMCIA CF adapter?

Its too much hassle always removing the ram chip or else playing with the jumpers to disable ram completely.

If it has a jumper, what about attaching a switch to the jumper?

The best way to get your pcmcia working with an accelerator card is to go for a pcmcia friendly card - ACA1230 or even better pre-order the new ACA card thats being released in the next couple of weeks. All have 64mb ram as standard :)

I looked into all of this last month and opted for ACA on the advice of many members here and although i had some teething probs I've been pretty happy with it overall ;)

I just got the card today so dont think ill be changing it any time soon.

I had in the past 2 Blizzard 1230 IV's and a DKB Cobra which were all PCMCIA friendly but i had sold them. This card is great except for the PCMCIA thing.

Is it possible, maybe anyone who owns one of these cards to make it think it has 4MB instead of 8MB. I tried setting the jumper but i must have done it wrong as it said that i have no fast ram when i set it.

If there's a 4/8mb toggle switch on the card i'm fairly sure that it should be straight forward to have another switch on the side of your 1200 which links to activate that toggle switch - depends whether you would be happy drilling a small hole in the side of your 1200! You may also need to consult an electrical wizard and maybe a soldering iron :)

The manual for the M-Tec 1230 says:
no jumper: 0 MB
M0 closed: 1 MB
M0 & M3 closed: 2 MB
M0 & M1 closed: 4 MB
M0 & M1 & M2 closed: 8 MB

If this applies to your card you just need a switch to M2.
