I am not aware of any "fixes" in the Workbench/kickstart releases for game compatibility.
It's not the WB but the kickstart that usually causes problems.
So a game that was written using hardware for kickstart 1.3 that won't work on 2.x is also unlikely to work on 3.x.
So you loose compatibility as you get newer with the older games..

er.. not so fast... ;-)
As newer games are written, you might get to some that only work on the newer kickstarts (and more possibly WB, as some later games were HD installable and WB friendly..)..
So you would gain compatibility with those...
I suppose, the most compatible would be 3.x with a degrader disk/program to boot into 1.3 for the troublesome older games...
Of course, if you have 2.x and above, you move into WHDLoad territory, although I know you mentioned not using that..
