Uhh, 27" iMac is $1600, lol.  I should know, I just bought one a week ago for a family member. 2.7ghz quad core, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HD, 6770M gfx card, keyboard, mouse and of course the included 27" display.  And has a established software base of thousands of software titles.  I'm no Mac fanboy, but get your facts straight, lol.  Not to mention it's an apples vs. oranges argument, pardon the obvious pun.

The X1000 won't run anything any better than my lowly SAM 440ep will, it's slim pickings on the software end that's the major problem at any price or HW spec.

Notice how i said "whatever" as i wasn't sure of the price? I was actually referring to the top of the range model as well which is what the x1000 is supposed to be   :)
Even my cat doesn\'t like me.

Well.  It's finally here.  And at $2700.  I feared it would be so.
The release is very contradictory as to what you get for the price.  Could it be a hoax ?
Could it be Franko setting up an elaborate ruse ?

As somone has pointed out on another site. Its got half the ram is was supposed to have and seperate audio and ethernet cards despite the mobo having these.

Not a good sign for either the software or possiblly yet another amigaone board with hardware issues ?

I am a prospective buyer of the X1000, and JJ raises some interesting points here.

It is a lot of money, but truth be told, it is a couple of hundred under what my absolute max was.  However, I would like an official reply to the points JJ raises before I consider pulling the trigger.

I would imagine they've just not finished the drivers for the onboard yet... not something I'd worry about.  Best prioritise the parts of the OS that you can't just stick a supported card in for.

About the same price as my first 486 before I added the £500 the printer cost me.

@OlafS3 Thanks I couldn't find it anymore :)

All this reminds me of my beginnings on Amiga, I wanted a A3000 but couldn't afford it so I bought a A500 instead and later I finally got my A4000.   History will repeat itself I guess since i'll order a SAM460 for now and wait for the "later upgrade" when I see its really worth the money.

The price is not exactly surprising, but that doen't make it better. And the thing it comes with only 1 GB RAM, another additional sound and ethernet card doesn't sound too promising, too.
No thanks; I don't like to spend my money that way.
Thumbs down!

So, you'll be getting one of the CUSA Amigas then?

At least you will be able to run BF3 on the A500x for the same amount of money.

Why the criticism regarding the RAM?  Would a next gen Amiga use anywhere near 1GB?

Next generation AmigaOne that is.

I didn't know they still made 1 GB DDR2 sticks anymore, most of what I've been putting in desktops are 4 GB DDR3.  It's actually surprising that they boast about power consumption and then don't do DDR3.  Also surprising is the hard drive at only 500 GB.  Whilst I realise that there really aren't any modern apps and that memory is fine for the old software that's available, you are up in the champaign and caviar price range and it would look nicer in the specs to see a 3TB hard drive and at least 4 GB of ram, even if it isn't really used.

The Radeon graphics card introduced 3 years ago may be a little long in the tooth as well....

What an appropriate name: First Contact.  'cause you sure are gonna get probed on this one.

Let's see...

1gb RAM = $13.99

ATI Radeon 4650 = $39.99 or $14.99 with rebate

500GB HD = $49.99

CD/DVD Burner = $16.99

Network card = $6.99

Sound card = $24.99

Case = $99.99

Power Supply = $14.99

A little googling shows that engineering samples (purchases of 1-2) PA6T CPUs (you know, the "secret" processor we were assured wasn't at the core of this machine) ran around $700 in 2008 or so.

...and we come up with...

$968, plus let's say $25 for shipping for a grand total of...

$993

So the retail cost of the motherboard is $1689.56.

Well played, Aeon.
