TurboPrint Update
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:47:04 AM »
Hi guys,

There is an unofficial update to TurboPrint just released on Aminet. There is no description of what it does, just a large Disclaimer.
Has anyone tried it yet, or is it best to steer clear?
Cheers

It's Turboprint for Linux
Don't know why it's in Aminet

It's an Amiga Installer script, and basically it does the following:

(run "wget" (cat "ftp://ftp.zedonet.com/tp2/turboprint-" #tp ".i586.tgz"))
(complete 25)

(working "unarchive")
(run "xaduntar" (cat "turboprint-" #tp ".i586.tgz T:"))
(delete (cat "turboprint-" #tp ".i586.tgz"))
(complete 50)

(copyfiles
   (prompt   "Copying printers directory")
   (source   (cat "T:turboprint-" #tp "/printers"))
   (dest   "TurboPrint:printers/")
   (help   @copyfiles-help)
   (pattern "#?.tpp")
)
(complete 75)

(copyfiles
   (prompt   "Copying colors directory")
   (source   (cat "T:turboprint-" #tp "/colors"))
   (dest   "TurboPrint:colors/")
   (help   @copyfiles-help)
   (pattern "#?.tpm")
)

Ie. downloads some updated files from an FTP server. By the name of the archive it would seem to be a package for the Intel Pentium architecture. But not having downloaded the 16Mb I can't be sure.

That's a little odd... Is it downloading Linux drivers and shoving them into the Amiga Turboprint installation? How is that ever going to work?

Turboprint "drivers" are mostly text files telling the actual program what to do with the data. So if the format of the text files has not changed in the Linux version, they might still work with the old Amiga software.

Hmmm, very interesting... I might give that a look so - haven't used Turboprint since I got my new printer a few years back since it wasn't supported... Will pull some of it apart and see what the deal is.

"drivers" are mostly text files  but it doesnt works
I used the installer on aminet and all new drivers for linux were installed on turboprint/printers
that's a big mistake I don't know who made that stupidity
and when load a new driver on turboprint prefs says "wrong driver version or driver faulty"
however the driver is loaded

anyone have tested those new drivers?
