amiga.org and procrastination
« on: January 05, 2004, 07:46:06 AM »
Pure evil.
Just EVIL, I tell you!

amiga.org is too adictive, I've decided that it takes up too much of my time!

As much as I love this place, I actually have better things to do.

The situation here over the last year or so, has been that I have two computers(sometimes three) sitting side by side, I run Linux on one with Netscape and an IRC client, connected to the net with amiga.org almost always on Netscape, and the other computer(now a Pegasos - Once an A 4000 T) sitting there with a few text editor windows open and a couple of shells.

It is with this second computer I am supposed to be working.  When I have some half finished programming work sitting there on my Peg, and my Linux machine is the one being used for mindless chat, I'm not getting much of the important money making work done.

I'm usually spending about 3 hours here per day!!  During most of that I'm wasting my time!

That's why I've decided that after some others have left to basically get on with their real lives, I've decided to cut back.

So after over 4000 posts I've decided it's too much, I can't take it, I'll have to find something more productive to do. I will probably cut back my visits to 1 a week, or one ever 2 weeks, or even 1 a month!

Hopefully I can get some more work done. I've eliminated TV before(due to the same reason in part), I'm sure I can do this - as difficult as it may seem.

Perhaps I will be able to sleep better (I think about amiga.org whenever I am not here)

Probably wont visit for a couple of weeks....

:-(

(I'll see how well I go)

It's impossible. I tried to live without access to this and AWorld, had withdrawal symptoms (had no net for a while). But as Quixote states, Good Luck  :-) .
Recovering WoW addict.

And, I\'ve relapsed, LOL.

Hmm, might be canceling again. LOL

I usually visit Amiga.Org every day....
Once in the morning and then in the evening
before I go to bed,... and sometimes I'll check-in
if I have a question needing an answer.
I understand your problem, its easy to get into
non-productive situations.

What the F****????
Oh, come on. You can crack the 5000 before you cut back, can't you? It's soooooooo close. (OK, not extremely close, but it's a lot closer for you than for me).

Well, I understand what you're getting at (for once! ;-) ). A.org eats up a lot of my time too - time I SHOULD be spending on more productive things. I suppose there is such a thing as "too good" a thing.

You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave

Holy moly! I was just thinking the same thing.
What's that saying about thinking alike?

I'll be cutting back a bit too.

After being away for a few weeks I sort of got used to being away... been living in the real world for a while.

Okay, what I actually did was record a new song, attend a new years party where I met the most amazing human being ever (:-))  and watch every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, back to back...

But it's been a more productive and happier time altogether really. I feels a bit strange to be back. I doubt my ability to tear myself away and just make the occasional casual post. Last month I was sitting here till the wee hours and literally forgetting to eat, actually getting A.org withdrawal whenever I visit my sister. It's scary when you think about it.

I dunno. I love you guys to bits but I don't know if it's healthy for me to spend as much time here as I used to.

 :-?
